@WVduckchick It does have the fan, yes. And the good eggs were completely at random throughout. I can't seem to find where I read it, but I had thought the yolks that fall apart is because of slight development (so maybe there's not even as much infertility as I thought), and I just read one...
@WVduckchick Thanks for replying, with the thermometers I had I could only test the temp at the top of the incubator, but it was reading 101.1, tho I'm assuming it would be slightly cooler where the eggs are. I will turn it down a bit. Thanks!
I just candled the 30+ 1-week-old call eggs I had in my incubator, and only five have developed. This happened last batch also, except not as bad. After doing some eggtopsies, I'm finding half of the yolks disintegrate after cracking open(does that mean slight development before dying?), and the...
I have a Call Drake I believe has a sinus infection, as he has a swollen cheek, although it is soft and nothing came out of his nares when I massaged it. I just noticed it this morning, and have him inside as it is in the 20's-30's F. I have him taking baths/drinking ACV water, but am wondering...
I am always torn also, but everytime I choose not to clip, I end up regretting it for one reason or another. Just a couple weeks ago, my dog got overly excited, and accidently chased two of my white Calls into the neighbors field, where two hawks instantly swooped down on them. Thankfully, they...
I have seen my call drake and some hens stand tall and take a few steps backwards if they're thinking about taking off and flying. Just another thought.
Congrats on the first egg! Always exciting. :) Ducks mating isn't necessarily connected with the females laying. Females may lay sporadically, or have irregular shaped eggs(or double-yolks or shell-less eggs) for the first few weeks of laying, and yes, the shells are a fair bit harder than...
Yes, you will definitely need more hens, but in the mean time, you may have to keep your two separated. I would check Craigslist, or a local Facebook poultry group, and see if you can find some older hens on there.
