    Lethargic hen

She is unbalanced when she walks too. If worming her doesn't work I will isolate her. I don't have a set up right now for a isolation. We had one but it was a temp set up. Not winter ready so I took it down. Plan to build something permanent in spring.

    Lethargic hen

No she hasn't lost any feathers. And I dust them every now and then. And I sprinkle some DE around everytime I clean the coop. I just ordered some valzaben so I will worm her as soon as it comes in and see if that helps. I haven't seen any signs of worms in the other hens poop. I don't think she...

    Lethargic hen

I've been force feeding her water with electrolytes and oatmeal to try and get her perky enough so I can worm her. They probably all need it. Poop is frozen and I don't know which poop is hers. This weekend I will be able to spend a bit more time with them and get some photos. The rest of the...

    Lethargic hen

My barred rock has been lethargic and not eating. It started with her pooping all over her own bottom. Now I don't think she has been eating or drinking for awhile. She is very skinny now. Bot egg bound and her crop is flat. I thought it was maybe the cold. 0° here so I put a heat lamp in the...

When does Rhode island reds fill out

Well I fed her a feather fixer for a couple of weeks and put some electrolytes and vitamins in her water for a bit. Her back was completely bare and had a huge bite in it. We put 2 of our hens down and the dog killed 3 but I gave her a chance bc she ran into the coop on her own after the...

When does Rhode island reds fill out

She will be laying any day now. Make sure you are checking the run and hen house on the floor. They don't always make it to the nest the first couple of times

And the week leading up to the egg she spent alot of time in the nesting box digging around and making a...

When does Rhode island reds fill out

My RIR is not fluffy and she is about a year and a half. There was a dog attack and her tail feathers have not grown back in yet but here's a picture of her. Just her rump is fluffy and I think she didn't get fluffy back there until almost a year old

    New girls

Just picked up these beautiful ladies. I think the one on the left is a barred rock and the other a cuckoo maran. I really hope they start laying soon. This is my first time introducing new hens to my flock so fingers crossed!

Topic of the Week - Adding New Chickens to the Flock

I'm glad this topic is here bc I'm about to try and add more to my flock. We lost a few hens and have a couple injured thanks to the neighbors dog. So we had to make an infirmary. We put the cage we usually raise the chicks in inside the coop half covering the door to the run and cut put a...
