    At University of Maine at Orono, the sheep were coming down with pnemonia after a barn renovation. The answer was to open the barn. Made it very cold in the winter but the illnesses stopped. I hate tight barns. Learning to make a good shelter is a skill.

    Batch of peep presented by mother witch this morning. 8 black, 8 brown chipmunk. This is Witchy Woman's second hatch this summer. A number of hens and roosters contributed to the motley crew. All 16 fit under mom. Like a magic act. Lol

    While evening skies have been lovely here, Im all for getting control of the fires. Maybe controlled burns would be beneficial. But from what a scientist who studies forests said was the lack of rain is the game changer. Perhaps is that remains a factor controlled burning is too risky.

    Ok. These feathers are not red, as in red of a good RIR. Rather a brown. And not yellow like seen in hackle feathers of BCM occassionally. Will see how he molts out over next few months.

    Thank you. I realize hatchery are not the best quality but need something to compare to in order to know what is normal. Growing birds go thru many stages that majes them look off but is just a growth stage.
