Holdereads. They sold all of them last year. If you are interested in getting some there is a FB group for them. One of the moderators bought hers from Holderreads. She was just selling eggs but I think she sells adults now too. She even has a tufted that Holderread hatched.
Maybe try going backwards? Who sells processed birds, which breed, and do they sell eggs/chicks/adults. I found someone a few states away that sells what I want that she’s worked on. My timing was off this year but I’m laser focused on getting some of her stock.
If you look at whose birds win...
I have Hookbills, and I’m not seeing traces of the breed in your picture. How old are your birds? I lose track of time but it seems like Metzer sold all of theirs 2 years ago, maybe more? Physically the 2 breeds look very different. Hookbills can definitely fly though so I guess if they were...
I use an electric 5 gallon bucket for the chickens. The cord is on the bottom and the bucket isup against a wall so no creatures get to it. The ducks I’m sure use it as well. Never had a duck climb into a bucket as adults...I had 50 Saxonies and 20 Muscovies this summer. But I do also have 5...
I’m in MI and it can get sud-zero here. I use the black plastic tubs for water which are easy to remove thick ice from. The geese will step into these to bathe when I give them fresh water in the AM.
I did find a gander frozen to the ground one morning. Took a bit to free him.
Although my...
Chinese w/b the loudest.
I have Cotton Patch and Shetland ganders with my chickens and they all get along. I also have Saxony ducks and although they also get along the geese will go after them.
My waterfowl sleep outdoors in electric netting. Raccoons won’t get in. All my predation happens...
I'd love to know how you would handle this situation. I'm torn between not saying anything and letting my aunt know she is out of line.
Here's the story.
My sister, who is pretty darn smart also has a mental illness, but we aren't sure what. I suspect autism. We are in the +/- 60 years age...
See if you can get a refund on shipping from the post office. I had some older goslings shipped and got all shipping back because they were a day late. I believe Stromberg would need to file the claim for you.
When I called the PO 1-800 number they said there were delays due to COVID.
What???? I looked at the law in my state and during the class they also stated the same. Believe me or not, your choice. Since I am certified I can’t claim ignorance if I am caught, and I think most people aren’t even aware that states regulate this..
it’s not authoritarian, where does that...
I put some ducklings in a stall and a gander hung out just outside the stall so I let him adopt them after a week or so. Before that he followed me everywhere so I was glad to not have him underfoot all the time. And then when I got 2 goslings I had him switch to them. Really simple. He’s...
What happens when the males mature? I’m not answering the question, my apologies, but I’d be concerned that the males would be too aggressive once they are adults.
My ducklings arrived in April and I’m just starting to see grey on the heads. Voices are a dead give-away though. The females chatter endlessly and do the head bobbing while the males are quieter and not as animated. Love my adult females.
I bought birds from Sandhill, and although I respect what they are doing, you’d be better off finding someone who specializes in the breed you want.
Holderread will be selling adults at least into next spring but if you don’t live close by the shipping is obscenely expensive.
When you say...
I have chickens, ducks and geese together. Chickens and ducks won’t try to mate. There are cross species friendships but chickens pretty much ignore the waterfowl, while one of my ganders adopted Muscovy ducklings. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
Mine go nuts for run of the horse pasture, but that won’t help you at all. Although they pretty much come back themselves after a fun day of activity. If you feed them lightly in the morning they’ll be even more keen to race back for dinner when you show up. Never had a problem.
It varies from state to state. I became certified last year and I am only able to test flocks in state. I’m in MI and once a year our Ag college, MSU, has a class. It was 3 hours long I believe and at the end you take a test. The test was drawing blood (under the wing stick with a special...
