Is this wet pox, canker, or something else? Please help.

Hmm, I've been trying to get creative with the water issue. But in SWFL we are very wet and rain season is about to start so always have puddles, etc. The main puddle right now is a drainage grate from our water system that overflows in the yard sometimes so I poured a batch of ACS on it last...

Is this wet pox, canker, or something else? Please help.

Update and more questions at the end: This was the process I followed based on everyone's help here and also my own instincts and online research. I may not do it all correctly but so far it seems to be working for me and my flock. For the first 2 days I gave the hen (only one showing symptoms...

Is this wet pox, canker, or something else? Please help.

Great instructions and seems clear and easy to follow. However, my husband bought Acidified Copper Sulfate and it should be delivered today. I've read about it but want to confirm here how to properly dispense it? I know I don't have to do the above in terms of acidifying it but I do still make...

    Hatched chick problem

Sorry I thought I put an update. I didn't do anything, it died the next morning. I usually lean on letting nature takes it course, within reason to not prolong unnecessary suffering. I was going to put it down when I got home from work but my hubs had let me know after I left for work that it...

Thank you so much. I was reading about the copper sulfate as well but on Amazon for overnight delivery I had no idea what to buy. They have fine large liquid. I was overwhelmed with the choices. But hoping TSC or one of those have it today. Thank you very much for the help.

Is this wet pox, canker, or something else? Please help.

Perfect. I have plenty of tools I think I can try. I ordered the medicine but it won’t be here for a full week. I don’t know if she’ll make it that long. My first experience with canker and it’s not fun.

Is this wet pox, canker, or something else? Please help.

What is best to scrape with? I tried using a cotton swab and got some off but not nearly enough. Her tongue is moving now but bulbous. Also if I treat my whole flock, there is egg withdrawal for this medicine correct? Any idea how long?

Is this wet pox, canker, or something else? Please help.

I've dealt with pox before and many other issues but never a severe case like this. This hen started having respiratory issues and we gave her basic respiratory medicine and she seemed to do better for a little while and then my husband noticed she went downhill fast. We haven't been able to...

    Hatched chick problem

Thank you for the response. I definitely don’t want it to suffer. All but the red protrusion dried up and broke away so I left it drying in a clean incubator and will see how it looks today after work and make a decision.

    Hatched chick problem

I’ve hatched plenty of chicks but have never seen this. It hatched on its own day on Day 22/23. It’s belly is swollen and has this protrusion. I figured I’d need to help it pass but it is really active, flapping its wings, chirping when it sees me, and walking like a new baby. I have searched...

Is this fowl pox? SW FL

I couldn't find any sores in the mouth but the one that died definitely lost weight very fast and quit eating and drinking. The few others seem to be thriving better than him but still smaller than the rest of their flock that's the same age. I'm seeing more sores so I do think it's fowl pox...

Is this fowl pox? SW FL

I tried this last night but I'm not seeing anything. When I have help with a flashlight I'll check again.

Is this fowl pox? SW FL

It's been a few years since I've seen fowl pox and this is a little different than I recall. I had 7 roosters, 12 weeks old. I noticed one had his left eye closed and I thought it was bullying in the coop as they are getting older. He got worse even after being separated and died over a week...

Sorry. I can't help. Are you sure it's not just the membrane/yolk still attached?

    March 2023 hatch-a-long

I read through a good bit but this is like the opposite. My chick seems to have control of her head. She pecks at her feet fine but when she's not, it's upwards again. I'm going to try and get her to drink and eat later and see how she does. I almost feel like she can't see as well but maybe not...

    March 2023 hatch-a-long

My one bantam chick that hatched this morning with the stuck wing doesn't sit/lie down. It stands like a penguin with it's head pointed upward. Otherwise, it behaves like the other chicks but seems odd. The one wing still seems odd too.

    March 2023 hatch-a-long

My main brooder has older chicks so the new hatches are in a temporary situation for a few days. 2 chicks and 4 eggs still in the incubator. These are all BCM's and Cream Legbars.
