Hatching eggs from my NPIP certified flock of super rare harlequin Indian runner ducks. Eight year project finally going public. I have 20 hens, and 5 drakes. All hens are either silver or gold phase harlequin-colored Indian Runners. The drakes are: 3 silver phase harlequin runner, one blue...
Is anyone going to this show in Stevenson, WA in October? Does anyone here show their ducks? Was hoping to put some faces to some of your names. I will be entering a trio of harlequin runners for "exhibition only", and looking forward to seeing all the nice birds!
after 6 (or more?) years of very selective breeding, I've finally achieved my goal: Harlequin Indian Runners! I have blue, gold, and silver harlequins. These are still juvenile, so will color up a bit more as they age. VERY excited about next year's hatch.
Most of the questions I see are about air sacks getting too big, but I have the opposite problem. Here in the humid Pacific NW I do not add any humidity to my incubator, I have good air flow (cabinet incubator), and I have a separate hatcher where I can increase the humidity at hatch time...
Does anyone here specialize in any particular breed/color?
I don't mean just having a couple of ducks that you breed....but does anyone have an actual breeding program? If so, please share:
Type and color variety.
- How many ducks do you have?
- How many do you hatch, and how/when do you...
Just hatched out what I believe is an albino Indian Runner duckling! All my adults are grey (mallard), trout, and Saxony, and I haven't had any white ducks for years. This little guy is all yellow, has a very light pinkish bill and feet, and red eyes!
Now if I can grow him to...
Hello,
I just moved about 40 eggs into the hatcher after spending the correct amount of time in my forced air cabinet incubator. Problem is that their air cells are still too small. I haven't had any water in the incubator for humidity (last year I did, and had the same problem). I guess...
Hi,
I have the opportunity to purchase 2 female geese that I'd like to add to my flock (4 females, 3 males). I'm just not sure about the timing... with the other females just starting to lay and all.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks.
I would like to buy larger quantities of Pilgrim goose hatching eggs (a dozen or more at a time please), so that I can add some new blood to my flock. They need to be fresh (no more then a week at the time of shipping). If anyone has Pilgrims and is willing to sell (or trade for the same) eggs...
Hi all,
After raising many different breeds of chickens, I've decided that it's time to downsize to just one breed. I raise mostly ducks, but would like to keep just a few chickens on the farm, and I'm trying to decide what breed would fit me best. Here are my criteria:
-Need to be fairly...
Okay, I've made the decision to finally get rid of the last of my chickens and just stick to ducks. While ducks are messier then chickens when it comes to their water, I find that the pros of ducks out-weigh the cons. Feel free to add to this list
Pros (of ducks vs. chickens):
Easier to...
I just ordered some "Blue Pearl" runners from Sand Hill, just cause I HAVE to have every color runner known to man!!! From the description it sounds like blue-pearl is either blue-fawn or apricot.
Has anyone ever ordered any of these, or better yet, have any photos? Or any other information...
I just got my first Pilgrim egg of the year. Last year they started laying at the beginning of February, and it was way colder last year too. What could have caused them to start so late?
Okay, so I understand the blue gene..... Red laced blue Wyandottes are a gold laced with one incompletely dominant blue gene. Breed 2 together and you get gold laced, red-laced blue, and red-laced splash.
My question is, what is the genetic difference between silver-laced and gold laced...
I have 7 3-year old pilgrim geese. 2 males, and 5 females. Last year they layed quite a few fertile eggs, though I didn't have much luck hatching them (my fault, not the geese's). I had quite a waiting list for the goslings at $10 each.
So, skip to this evening: I was looking through CL...
I'm super excited about this years possibilities! Got all my "ducks in a row" so to speak: got everyone separated into their "breeding groups", got the incubator warmed up, and am just waiting for them to start laying!
I've got:
Pen 1: Trout / blue trout/ saxony runners
Pen 2: Grey / blue...
