Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

We figured out the chicken thing and they've been doing great. We needed a bigger project so decided to have a baby and he just turned 1 last week!

    Emergency supportive care aspergillosis

Well, they just called and said there was inflammation in the trachea consistent with suffocation but there was nothing else obvious. There could have been fungal issues but nothing that was intense enough for an immediate cause of death. Basically a dead end 😭

    Are these tapeworm segments?

I think I'm just going to splurge on a bottle of PSP. A lady here sells off vials from her bottle which has helped in the past. I sprayed the coop on my last deep clean as a preventer. The thing is, I've never ever seen a mite on them. But when the vet was ruffling her feathers he showed me a...

    Are these tapeworm segments?

Deep cleaned everything and DE on the floors and corners and rubbed into the roosts. Can't use permethrin because of the cats and all the stuff gets stored in the house, not willing to risk it. My cat is my life. I had an elector psp dose that I sprayed everything down with a few months back on...

    Are these tapeworm segments?

No movement. They're jelly like consistency. I wormed 4 days ago and 3 days ago with safeguard (.25 ml/lb so 1.6 ml) and then used 4 ivermectin drops from the vet for light mite problem.

    Emergency supportive care aspergillosis

It wasn't working, so we went to the vet and she was in an oxygen chamber and still passed away. I was using a warm air humidifier and so maybe that was the problem. I got a nebulizer for it in case I need to miss the other chickens... I sent her in for necropsy

    Are these tapeworm segments?

My cuckoo marans has had diarrhea off and on for awhile and of course I didn't poke around in her poo (because that would have been the smart thing) but I wormed them with safeguard for possible gapeworm. (I know, I know .. rare so I didn't think it an issue but I lost my first two chickens ever...

    Emergency supportive care aspergillosis

I always keep my coop super clean and I added a hut for my silkie over winter and last week there was an ammonia smell that wouldn't go away so I pulled all the hut out and there was a bunch of poop that stacked up behind there that I didn't know about and was moldy. I cleaned it all out but I'm...

    Silkie comb coloring

I love the contrast! He's so beautiful. He started crowing at 8 weeks and I'll see how loud it develops but I'd like to keep him. Will that green develop into a more green-green or still be black(ish)? I was kinda bummed to notice it today. At first I thought she was jaundiced and started...

    Silkie comb coloring

Hi there! I have two nine week old silkies. One male and one female... I'll let you make the assumption on who is who because it's pretty darn obvious. The male has these beautiful bright blue earlobes and dark comb and the female has kind of a greenish tint to her beak and comb? No...

    Orange-ish urates?

Thank you! I was a bit worried as I hadn't seen that before!

    Orange-ish urates?

I noticed my EEs have laid a few orange capped poos. They are 1 year old and have been incredibly healthy but a couple weeks ago, one choked on something and ended up inhaling it fully and was treated with one injection of Baytril from the vet (to prevent aspirational pneumonia) but then...

    Medicated feed and coccidiosis?

I cleaned everything out and was waiting to take a picture and it seemed to have resolve itself yesterday!

    Medicated feed and coccidiosis?

I have 11, 4 week old chicks. They started spending afternoons outdoors when it's warm. They've been on medicated feed and have not been vaccinated for coccidiosis. Today I'm seeing some loose orange-ish stools with a bit of darker orange and maybe redish tint to it. It's all one piece, no...

11 week old pullet trouble seeing

I ended up realizing that so I got poultry cell instead. I didn't know they could take human vitamins. I started with 1 cc orally.

11 week old pullet trouble seeing

Eye looks completely normal. She seems to always sit on her hocks for the last month or so. It's been crazy hot (100+) and they're doing a good job of staying cool but I thought it was additional cooling mechanism. They get some nutri drench in their water in the coop but just fed her a higher...

11 week old pullet trouble seeing

My 11 week old EE has struggled. We call her the dumb chicken because if there's food on the ground she pecks a few millimeters in front of it and can't ever seem to get it. She does okay if it's in the feeder because if she misses she gets some other pieces but seems to just misjudge distance...

    Help predator proof door

Trim it from the inside? I was thinking about that. I added a rotating bar that blocks it from the bottom.

    Help predator proof door

So I had to create more ventilation and took out a lot of the cleaning door not realizing it would bow more. With the amount this gives now I'm scared something will be able to get in. (We only have opposums and racoons in the city) I have gate locks and padlocks on top and bottom. The hardware...

    Coop ventilation in high heat

I'm going to frame them in white like my other windows. I'll post a picture once it's finished and we have some corrugated plastic for a sunroof that I will probably cut to size and attached over the winter. The pieces that I cutout have a bunch of drill holes and they're pretty beat up from...
