She actually hasn’t laid any eggs as of yet. Which is interesting since all the other girls that we got as ready to lay have been laying for a month now. I just assumed based on her size and the size of her comb that she was younger than the others and we got her prematurely. I am going to see...
Hi helpful friends, thanks for all of the advice and information.. she has come around and is back to being her sketchy self, and seems to have forgotten our bonding moments, and wont let me touch her without a fight again. :/
Her colour is very much returning and her confidence is coming back...
Just read your article, will get going in the advice; thank you!
I just noticed a small amount of discharge or something, do you have any advice on that, or is that sometimes “normal” for crop issues?
She isn’t going near her water, so I will have to give her hydration through the syringe. She stood up for me when I massaged her last, about 20minutes ago, wobbled a bit when I set her back down, but has been standing up since.
Her toes moved around my hands when I held her which is an...
Thanks for the reply.
I would say it’s bigger than a golf ball, smaller than a tennis ball. It’s definitely not as hard as it was this morning, but it’s still very much engorged. I can see her wince when I massage particularly on the right side, which I notice it’s protruding more from. She’s...
Hi everyone,
I came out this morning to see my Azure Blue (20-22wks old) not looking well.
(We got her from Frey’s as a ready-to-lay, but she has never laid and came injured and bullied-so she’s had a rough go from the start)
I think she has an impacted crop as it was hard and swollen, she’s...
Thanks for the advice, is it safe to give ivermectin topical to birds if they don’t have depluming mites? I want to treat all of the birds just in case, they probably all have them but some are totally healthy looking.
I have held mine and inspected their feathers so many times but I still don’t see anything! But I can’t figure out why my birds are still missing so many feathers. My latest theory is boredom as I watched them pluck at each other’s feathers for a few minutes.
I was reading up and apparently mites are nocturnal which is why you only saw them at night.. I need to inspect mine at night as I think my birds have an issue with mites right now! :(
From what I have googled, I do not see anything on any of the birds, I know there are some mites that are so tiny you cant see them. But she is still laying eggs every couple of days.
I did start to take notes though, and I noticed the last few days, she is shaking her head a lot so it could...
Because we live in Canada, we have the timer for the winter... Sorry I shouldve been more specific. In the summer we dont set the time, as the coop has skylights. But in the Winter, we have the time set to turn on at 5am until sunrise (around 7:30am) and the it goes on again from (4pm-8/9pm) so...
Hello there,
My 11 Red sex Links are now 2 years old (Born April 2020). They started losing feathers around late September/October 2021, so I figured it was their first big molt since they had never molted before this. We never lost complete egg production, but it did decrease to around 4-5 a...
Hello!
We have 2 female Pekin ducks around 24 weeks old, regularly laying and for the most part I would say happy. I have noticed that the one is constantly mounting the other in their pool like the male (he died) used to do to try to mate. Is this normal behaviour for two females?
They are actually quite used to my cuddles and submit to me rather easily, so that’s actually the easiest part of the process hahah
Thanks! I never think to check YouTube.
Hello all!
I’m very excited as our Red Sex-Links are all almost at full maturity and we are averaging about 8 eggs a day (out of 12 chickens).
However, one or two of our birds are constantly laying double yolk eggs, we get one almost daily. All of the chickens are getting layer feed as well as...
Ohhh thanks so much!! I was cutting higher than that, right to the tip of the second set essentially. I normally cut both sides, but I thought I would try one side this time to see if it effects their balance. I will try cutting lower next time.
I have 12 Red Sex-Links, all about 21 weeks old. Our run we decided to make 4’ high as this is our first year with chickens and used what we had for budgetary reasons. If we like this new hobby we will probably remake the run higher. However in the meantime, because of this height, we’ve noticed...
