Note that the vent has consistently stayed with that green tinge around it- she had a bath a couple hours ago and this was thoroughly cleaned with antiseptic and soap then an antibiotic ointment went on after- it looks like this after being freshly washes

Hi everyone, I have a pure bred Silkie hen who is about 9 months old who started laying about a month ago but is not a frequent layer- all my chickens have dropped off laying currently. A week ago I noticed she was making these noises of discomfort and would do it for about 10 seconds and...

    Unwell Silkie rooster- please help

Just a follow up- is there any chance it could be sour crop? He is poking his chest out and putting his head back when he walks it’s more noticeable, but when I felt I could only feel and see his trachea, but if I feel from under his wings and up it feels harder, the images I had seen online the...

    Swollen eye, lower eyelid drooping

Thank you for your response! Yes both of the eyes look like that, I’ve started giving an eye ointment and read that doxycycline is effective at treating so should I give this to all the chickens that it has been in contact with (only one other and the hen she came with). There is no bubbling or...

Rooster struggling to walk toes curled in

Yes it looked like tapeworms in his poo, I gave him aviverm for deworming as I assume that would’ve covered all worms but please correct me if I am wrong :) I used to feed a “supa chook mixed grain” but felt it was a waste as the small grains weren’t being eaten and also the chickens got to...

Rooster struggling to walk toes curled in

Yes he is a silkie and he is 6 months old, yes it is winter here (New Zealand). Can I use human b vitamin complexes? And human vitamin e or only ones intended for poultry. Does the selenium need to be from a tablet or would the amount in an egg be enough. Thank you so much !

Hi everyone, I’ve got a rooster who started showing a limp a couple days ago which progressed into him struggling to walk so I brought him inside to keep him warm with food and water. Upon some research I had a look at his legs and feet which there is no swelling or sign of injury, and also...

    Fowl pox in chicks

Hi everyone, about a month ago I had 8 silkie chicks hatch (long story but it was completely unplanned, the mum hid the eggs) whilst there was fowl pox going through my flock. The chicks seemed unaffected for about 2/3 weeks and they were kept isolated from the flock with their mum. About a week...

    Mold on face?

Okay, the eggs were infertile so there won’t be any chicks however I do have a 4 week old chick in the flock. In the space of 12 hours I’ve caught 2 more new birds with foul pox and one of them is a rooster that doesn’t seem to be doing as fine as the hen, his eyes seem quite swollen and shut :(
