Update: My babies are 10 weeks old and i think i may have 3 cockerels and 3 pullets. Question is if that’s true i’ll only have 17 hens total when they’re grown so do i need more than one rooster? i was hoping for no more than 2 roosters but i don’t want them fighting all the time, any tips...

Looking for ideas on breed of TSC chicks

Update on my chicks…i think the Columbian wyandotte is 4 weeks old and the others 3 weeks. The black and two dark brown chicks are supposed to be Prairie Bluebell Eggers and could be pullets or cockerels. The rest were all marked as pullets & the two other brown chicks were in the Wyandotte...

Looking for ideas on breed of TSC chicks

Hi guys, I let my daughter pick 6 new chicks at TSC to replace some chickens we recently lost. I’m not sure they were accurately labeled though, just curious what you all think! These 3 came from the straight run of Prairie Blue Eggers & i know they’re cross breeds so they might be right...

New EE cross from Hoovers Hatchery?

I realize EE isn’t it’s own breed and that it’s a mix, I’m just used to seeing the Americana cross I guess with the pea combs and muffs or beards. I was expecting these to be the same, but I also forgot Legbars have colored eggs too. 😊

New EE cross from Hoovers Hatchery?

Anybody get EE chicks this year from Hoovers that look more like Legbar than they usually do? I ordered 5 EE female chicks in May so they are 5 weeks old this week and they are getting single combs and have orange legs. I was kind of hoping for the usual Americana cross so any info on these...

💖 The Offical Easter Egger Lover’s Thread 💖

I have 5 chicks that I got from Hoovers as Easter Eggers but they seem to have single combs and orange legs? Do you all think they are Easter Eggers or something like Legbar?

EE from farm store 7 wks

I also have this little chick which is an EE from Hoovers that will be 4 weeks in a couple days. It was in a batch that is supposed to be all females, I know it’s early and I’m not sure what they used as a cross for EE.

EE from farm store 7 wks

Hi, so I got these 4 chicks from the local farm store and they will be 7 weeks old tomorrow. I think I have 2 roosters and 2 hens but let me know what you think…no crowing has started yet. First two pictures I think are roosters and second two are the hens?

Half off at farm store is hard to resist

Hi everyone! It’s been awhile since I’ve been on here, but I am replenishing my flock this year since my current ladies are 2 years old. I have 15 chicks set to ship from Hoover’s on Wednesday, but I went in the farm supply store and they had 50 percent off Americana chicks that look to be...

    Fox attack overnight

Hello, I had two hens attacked overnight by what I’m pretty sure was a fox. One hen is gone, only feathers left but the other has no open wounds but really roughed up. She will stand but just keeps her head down on the ground. I put her inside my basement with sugar water nearby but she...

    Chickens being bullies

Hi everyone, I know there’s other posts on here probably related to mine, but I am new to chickens. I had one of my hens (of course my favorite one) get stuck under a piece of plywood the feeder sets on in the coop a couple days ago. She was bloody and bald in a 2 inch by 1 inch strip...

Feeding mixed age flock layer feed

Thank you, that sounds great! Should I worry about protein level, I saw Nutrena makes one with 20% protein and didn’t know if that was too much?

Feeding mixed age flock layer feed

Hi, I have 14 hens and 1 little bantam rooster. Only 4 hens are bantam, the rest are larger assorted breeds but I’m worried about starting layer feed as 4 big hens and the bantams will be 18 weeks around August 22, then I have 2 hens at 18 weeks around 9/8, 2 hens on 9/15 and the final two are...

    Hoover’s new 2021 “Easter Eggers”

These two chicks came from our farm supply store who orders from Hoover’s. They were labeled Americauna but I’m sure they are Easter Eggers, they’re sweet and will do anything for meal worms but they’re kind of odd too.

    Easter Eggers: pullets or cockerels?

Yay! I’m so happy, we didn’t do too bad then, out of 16 chicks from the farm supply store we only got one Production Red rooster and one Golden Sebright bantam rooster. Gordy, the big one is going to my in laws for their hens today and Phoenix my bantam is staying here with his 4 bantam hens &...

    Easter Eggers: pullets or cockerels?

These chicks are 6-7 weeks old and I’m thinking both are pullets but I’m not sure & new to chickens. They are both big babies and will sit on mine or my daughter’s lap or shoulder if we bring treats out.

    Bantam thread!

My variety from the feed store, the golden sebright is a rooster and others are pullets. They are all about 10 weeks old. I’m new to chickens but besides these guys I also have 11 big chicks ranging from 6 weeks to 10 weeks old.
