Hi all, does anyone know what this is near my hen’s left eye? It looks like an abscess but I’m not sure of the cause or treatment. I’ve noticed her eye was redder over the past week and then today the bump was pretty pronounced so it has taken some time to appear. Pictures of left and right eyes...

Yay, thank you!! So happy about this. I do feel bad having to separate her from her brother. He can’t stay. Hoping they both do ok.

Thank god! She’s very different than the cockerel but the red on her comb had me worried.

So I bought two chicks for my broody hen. One turned out to be a Wyandotte Rooster and now I’m worried my Easter Egger could be a rooster as well. She’s almost 8 weeks old.

It’s funny - I think she’s done but he still sleeps on her back and calls for her. His sister seems far more self sufficient (she’s an Easter Egger). This is my first experience with a Wyandotte. They are quirky!

I keep hoping he will be a she but need to face the reality. He has a home to go to but his attachment to mom is breaking my heart. Thank you for responding!

I bought this nearly 7 week old as a day old Easter Egger pullet. Now looking more like a “he” and a Silver Laced Wyandotte. Any chance I could still have a pullet or is this definitely a cockerel? He is skittish, same size as my Easter Egger pullet the same age, and sleeps on adoptive momma...

Oh wow, definitely a roo for you. My Easter egger has the typical female coloring so that makes me feel better. Now only one roo to rehome.

Did these end up being pullets or cockerels? I have one and keep thinking cockerel but he’s really skittish so I can’t tell.

Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to have roosters in my township. Not even supposed to have chickens but my neighbors don’t mind. A rooster would change that.

I tend to assign human emotions to them. I’m sure he’ll forget about his old life pretty quickly.

Do you mind posting a picture? Worried my other pullet could be a cockerel too. The one that definitely is turns out to be a Wyandotte so he looks different anyway.

Thanks for responding…his tail feathers are giving it away too. Poor guy will be at his new home in a few weeks.

That’s a good point. They are all orpingtons and are much bigger than he is. They have no problem keeping each other in place so I’m sure the same applies to him! I’ll post another photo at 8 weeks before I rehome him and will keep my fingers crossed that out of some stroke of luck he turns...

That’s what I expected so I’ve been a little confused. We are with our chickens a lot and handle them and he runs around scared.

Ugh I agree. His wattles have grown a lot. He’s also very skittish compared to the pullet. I don’t know if that’s a gender thing or a breed thing but he’s hard to catch!

So here he is at 6 weeks…still thinking cockerel??
