Thanks for the suggestion, I wouldn't put a layer of hardware cloth under the run on the floor as it the wood sits directly on concrete. So only around the sides. I would put a sort of bedding which was where I am still debating, I am thinking sand at this point though.

Thanks do think the wood around the bottom of the base would need to have a plastic layer or something to keep the legs from rotting with organic material around it?
