Comment by 'Cheshire Chickens' in article 'Blood on a Chicken Eggshell'

I always come to our little community here if I’ve got any questions or concerns, and once again you all put my mind at ease! 😘 I have an older hen (5yrs young) Margo in my small flock, and she has just started to get back in the swing again after a winter break. She is laying every 3 days or so...

    Pale winter comb? Frostbite?

I like the idea of the sweeter heater, I’ll have to Google it. Fingers crossed 🤞 they both make it through the winter and to sunnier and warmer spring days.

    Pale winter comb? Frostbite?

How's your comet doing? My RIR Margo (5 years old) often has a pale dry comb in the winter when she's on an egg break. It always worries me, she's not young and she's a big girl, so heart/liver problems are always a concern. She's always been fine though. Its got down to -6 degrees C here...

😂🤣 I've obviously had too much practice in tube feeding, antibiotic 💊 giving and mouth canker checks with my flock! 🙄😊

15 month old Delaware rooster has lost is tongue. How? What? Trouble breathing. Emergency

I think that’s normal. My chickens roof of their mouth look like that, odd I know but pretty normal. Hope he’s still on the mend.

Help! Chicken has been very sick need to know what to do.

Hi Pheonix Collins So sorry to hear about Lightning and her struggles over the last few weeks and months, we all do our very best for our beautiful girls, and it is evident in your post how much you loved and cared for her. I'm writing this now as I lost my Dottie last night too (I used to call...

Where can I get a crop feeding tube?

I was given a lamb feeding tube by my vet for crop feeding. Any farm supply places near you would sell one.

    Feeding Beryl’s friendly Bacteria

Just an update on the Beryl's usage. I fed it to my 4 hens back in June 2022, mixed a little vegetable oil in with the pellets first and then added the sachet (veg oil helped it to stick to the pellets). They wolfed it down, no problem at all, it smelt very "cheesey" but maybe that's why they...

    Feeding Beryl’s friendly Bacteria

Hi there I’ve just ordered some Beryl’s for exactly the same reason (post antibiotic use) and would prefer to add it to food as I’ve been having to syringe and force feed meds to my hen for the last week! How did you get on? Did you mix it with their food? Thanks, Hayley

Signs Chicken is *ABOUT* to Start a Molt

Thanks so much for your reply, gives me some reassurance. Like you though I’ll keep worrying until I see white feathers on the coop floor! Poop is normal although not as much as she’s eating so little - sunflower seeds and a bit of cucumber today. Foraging now and then, but also sitting off...

Signs Chicken is *ABOUT* to Start a Molt

Hi Buffy How has Willow been? Was this pre-moult blues? I hope so. I’m hoping my Dottie’s behaviour (not eating pellets, isolating, acting low-key, not like her as she’s top hen) is due to impending moult. I’ve also lost a hen to ovary/reproductive disease and am worried it’s that. She last...

    Pinless Peepers Injuries

I’m in this position now. Hen wore them for just over a week and now has swollen nares and bruised beak at the point where the comb comes down. Feel awful that I’ve hurt her like this. Definitely won’t be using them again and I’d recommend others not to. All reviews said they don’t hurt and...
