Life has indeed been crazy! Our guinea fowl have recently started laying their eggs again, and I really hope I'll have time to hatch a few more this year 🤭. Chickens are as crazy as ever, and our beautiful rooster has grown up to be protective of the flock ( sometimes a little too protective 🥴😆)
Hopefully the link works. It is a video of my chicken making the sounds that I think are correlated to her breathing issue. Not sure what it is. Tried looking in her mouth, but all I was able to see was a small yellowish spot near the front of the bottom half of her beak, and it was not raised...
We collect eggs about two times a day, as some of them lay closer to night and some early on. We have had a few broody hens the last month, but they aren't anymore. Our rooster isn't old enough to fertilize eggs yet, and our guinea male would be the most likely, but he only cares for his mate. ;)
I think that is a lot of the problem (that they think their eggs will like store bought). Honestly we probably should be more selective about who gets eggs for that reason. I can actually taste a difference in our chickens eggs vs. store bought and I do prefer our chickens eggs (I'm not just...
The price definitely wasn't a problem for the customers, and what they told our egg sellers was something about a bad egg but very vague. Again really appreciate all advice given 🙏. We have only had chickens for a little over a year, and we are constantly learning new things, and most of it...
That's a good idea to put instructions in for the customer! It definitely helps when the customer lets us know if they got a bad egg so we can pinpoint the pproblem. I guess I heard a lot about ACV and peppers helping to prevent worms and other stuff..
The only problem is our customer didn't say anything about it, and they weren't willing to tell us. They just said they don't want any more eggs from us (which they have every right to buy wherever they want). We found out about it only because our relatives sell them eggs and thats how we found out
The only person who actually told us what happened to their egg said it had exploded. We only know someone else got a bad egg because they said they won't take anymore because they might get another one. The other person hasnt said anything about getting more eggs, and we have a very good reason...
Help!?! Bad Eggs? So we give our eggs to family, and they sell some eggs for us to their friends. Around the 18th of June (around that week), we gave some eggs to a friend and our relatives, but a few weeks later we were JUST told that somebody got a bad egg and will no longer buy from us. Then...
Okay that's good to know where to go to diagnose the illness 👍 is there any treatments or anything you could recommend so that I can try to prevent death or more problems?
As far as coop ventilation, the coop is very well ventilated, but the weather has been very rainy, which has caused some weather to get in there. We have been cleaning out the coop a lot because of the weather. (We live in Central Florida). I haven't recorded how often the same chickens...
Recently I posted about a hen with swollen eye (there was some bubbling), I've been doing colloidal silver a lot in her eye along with wiping her eye with a warm compress, and it seems to be helping. However, I think one of our other hens laid a bad egg, and she has been breathing through her...
I used those type of tweezers to remove the plug and scab as well. Our chickens also free range so I try to keep an eye on their feet, and we try to clean them when we can/need to.
@bhawk-23 I have been soaking the hen's foot in Epsom salt and warm water with some essential oils usually when I get home from work, and I've also soaked her foot in colloidal silver once or twice. I found what this person was doing so now I'm trying to see if that works, as my chicken has a...
