    Integrating 5 - 1yr old hens with 4 - 12 wk old pullets?

Thanks! All good ideas. Boxes are a great idea too. I plan on using that idea. We don't free range but have a good-sized covered run. What we also plan on doing is creating a chunnel from the run to a circular net-covered area that I can move often. I know chicken owners say don't worry too much...

    Integrating 5 - 1yr old hens with 4 - 12 wk old pullets?

In the beginning, I didn't make an opening between the two groups, but this week I cut a door in the hardware cloth that the pullets can fit through, not the hens. And I can push it close if need be. Today was a test run. I put all but one of the hens in an outer run. I then opened the hardware...

    Novogen thread

I have five hens. 2 are Novogen hens. They are the first to come to me thinking I have snacks. They've never pecked at me, except into my hand when I've had snacks. However I've noticed if they see my wedding ring, they try to peck at it. They do seem to be dominant in the group and very...

We love hemp! It stays dry and keeps order down! We also use it for deep litter method in our coop.

    Integrating 5 - 1yr old hens with 4 - 12 wk old pullets?

This topic is discussed a lot, but I need some reassurance as it's my first time. I have four 12wk old pullets that I've started integrating with my five hens. I brooded them indoors till 6 weeks, then put them in a grow-out brooder in our coop. It's an area coordinated off by hardware cloth...

Comment by 'ReluctantChickenOwner' in article 'Yogurt For Chickens'

Coming back to this article; I've given yogurt to my flock mixed on or with veggies etc. They do get messy. New to this chicken thing....so should I clean off their faces after? They like it, but seem offended that it got on them! Just wondering.

Deep litter method - where to purchase hemp bedding in Oregon?

Hi, sorry I do not have ducks. Maybe someday! But just to follow up, the hemp still does not smell and is dry. I am not sure how it would work out for ducks. But I would definitely suggest that you call into Carolina Coops regarding this thought. They build coops for chickens and ducks. I'm sure...

    Hen crowing suddenly?

Hmm, it has always been a weird chicken. It has always made weird sounds. As a chick it sounded like a cricket, and now it sort of growls (no bawk sounds). And crowing. We had another rooster (a maran) that crowed early on and we had to give him away. This is why I was surprised by this one...

    Hen crowing suddenly?

Ok. Thanks. I did just post 2 more pictures. Not sure if they are any better. It usually goes to the back of the run when I enter. Unless I have grubs or some snack. Sure is always keeping an eye on me. While the others happily forage in the run. Thanks for input. Does yours have spurs starting?
