A little background on me. In the 90s I owned & trained obedience dogs.
My dogs are always trained using motivation. We won many competitions, we being myself, Crystal & Oscar. Crystal & Oscar were German Shorthairs. I have always had hunting breeds, and my shorthairs all had hunting titles. I...
Thank you to @NatJ for looking at an older post of mine & pointing out that this chicken is 3 months old.
Not Two months old. I think it’s a cockerel.
Can someone please confirm sex, if possible.
If anyone has a clue as to breed that would be appreciated!
I thought Gene was a Jersey Giant because he (I assume) has the correct leg & bottom of foot colors.
I got him from Murray McMurray as my free chick with my RIRs.
He is noticeably larger than my RIR, and has been since day 1.
I cannot find this color in JG.
Pictures are at 3.5 weeks and 7 weeks.
Some of you know that I had eight week old chicks when I left for vacation. A relative was staying in my house and was (I thought) a very responsible person. In under two weeks all my chicks were gone except one 😭. I gave her to a neighbors grandson.
That was early June of this year.
I have 3+...
I think my mystery chick might be a Black Jersey Giant. I’m assuming it’s a roo, received it with my order of RIR.
Made me start wondering what the offspring would be if I bred him to a RIR hen.
Has anyone done this? I am not familiar with this breed, what I have read makes me think I...
I love this forum, I have read and learned so much.
When my RIR chicks arrived yesterday I had one with a leg problem. I knew I had seen this on BYC, so I went through the rabbit hole looking at so many different options and ideas.
There were a couple of threads that were especially helpful...
Here’s my situation. I got my first chickens in 1983. The information available now is mind boggling. I have learned so much on BYC! I have only purchased chicks 3 times between then & now.
Well 4 times including the 2.5 week old chicks I have now.
I have Black Star & ISA Brown chicks...
Howdy! I see that there are (unfortunately) a lot of roosters needing homes.
I am looking for two Rhode Island Red (RIR) or Barred Rock (BR). One of each, or however it works out.
Older roos are welcome, but I do not want an older aggressive roo!
I have chicks, so I am not in a hurry. These...
These are black star & isa brown from Hoover’s hatchery. I haven’t raised a lot of chicks, but these look bigger than I remember at this age. I’m not good at taking pictures, so I’ll apologize now for them. One is of Lucy, chiweenie, wanting ‘her’ chick.
For the first time I was able to travel from TX to Seattle to see my grandsons. They are 15 & 12.
I hired a relative who has come for multiple visits to stay in the house and take care of my kitty & ladies.
He has visited so many times I knew he would take exceptional care of everything.
He...
I had an old hen whose time had come. I went in to the coop today to get her. As she tried to get away from me she ran into a board & broke her beak. It broke right below her nostrils. It was completely attached, blood was coming from her nostrils and mouth.
I dispatched her quickly, hopefully...
I had asked her help with Ready and was given great advice!
I was asked for pictures. I finally got some taken.
I hope they help people who are unaware of the damage this cruel practice does.
We can never learn enough.
I’m new & I’m not :) I know I was a member in 2015 because I have data in Evernote from BYC.
When I recently went to sign in I wasn’t able to, so I created a new account.
I have had chickens for 30+ years and feel like I know nothing :)
BYC is the absolute best place for poultry lovers!
Thank...
Over the past thirty years my home has gone from in the country to semi rural. I get stray animals all the time. The past year I have started getting stray hens & guineas.
My latest stray hen, Ready, has been debeaked 🤬 When Ready eats, her upper & lower beaks move sideways of each other, I’m...
