A good Epsom soak was Grammy's fix for everything (or at least step one). Muscle soreness? Go soak. Joint pain? Go soak. Splinter? Wound care? Infection? Swelling? You guessed it, go soak. 😁
Hope your chicken feels better soon!
Thank you so much for your reply. I didn't realize that I didn't actually post my reply to you. I don't know if it was the splint or the rest, but she was back on her feet and with her flock within a week and back to using her leg as normal within a week of being back with her flock.
Hey! I kept her separated for a few days. It definitely was a sprain.
My treatment for her:
1. Nutri-drench in her water as well as a serving of it straight to her as she was super pale and listless (edit this was about a day after I made this post. I also was handfeeding her for a bit).
2. I...
One of my light brahmas gave us the adorably small egg. Thinking it's a glitch as they're only 18-19 weeks, but they've started allowing my roosters advances, so I'm not too surprised.
Apologies for the duplicate thread, I've read each post that I could get my hands on on the topic and didn't necessarily felt like they matched our situation enough. I will also apologize in advance if I get terms wrong, I've pulled up a photo of chicken anatomy to try to make this as clear as...
I went with your suggestion of a permanent option and put up some old left over landscaping cloth. Seems to be thin/see through enough that they don't hate it when they're in their run, but my rooster had a much easier time moving them into the run when the mailman drove up the lane and they've...
They're almost 16 weeks, been doing field trips since about 10 weeks. It's about 2-3 times a week at this point because the weather has been so gnarly.
I'll have to get some up to date photos since we just finished the hardware cloth, but I should have some photos of the coop and run on my page...
So I'm realizing I have an issue with my chickens flying/jumping into the hardware cloth which usually isn't too big of a deal (no one has knocked themselves silly yet). However, I've realized that they really can't tell where the door to the run is, which has caused issues for them getting back...
Thank you! Brahmas are beautiful and I was so excited to find them local. We get a lot of rain (Southeast VA) and have 2/3rds of our run covered and they seem to stick to the dry parts or their coop when it's rainy/wet. I'll probably cover the rest of their run and keep them in when it's rainy.
Ha, that's how I was feeling. These photos are from yesterday so just a day shy of 10 weeks, but here is a week 7 photo which was still just as red and in your face compared to the other chicks.
Hey folks,
1 of my 8 chicks (supposedly all pullets) has had a red comb and waddles since about 7.5 weeks and is also much taller and larger than my other light brahmas. The other 7 have small, barely raised, salmon colored combs and are just barely getting their waddles 2.5 weeks later.
Other...
We were going to do the whole thing from scratch, but honestly, there are only so many hours in day, my chicks are ready to be outside, and I'm sore 🤣
Hope you're feeling better and your project is frustration-free.
