Rooster recovering from dog attack has stopped eating/drinking

Sonny made it through the night and I restarted his ab's. I've been sitting with him in my lap and feeding him water with acv with an eye dropper. He has a smorgasbord of food to choose from including hard boiled eggs with yogurt (which he usually loves), organic scratch, meal worms, sunflower...

Rooster recovering from dog attack has stopped eating/drinking

Appreciate your advice so much. He's been cleaned and treated with Vetericyn as well as neosporin twice a day since the attack but, I missed one of the wounds on his back until a couple of days later. When I still smelled an odor from the wound on his back after a week, I started the amoxicillin...

Rooster recovering from dog attack has stopped eating/drinking

Thank you. I just gave him an epsom salt soak and blew him dry. The color came back to his face but he still didn't want to drink or eat anything. I hate to restart the antibiotics but, if he hasn't shown any improvement by morning, I will.

Thank you both for your valuable input. I've been outside with him for a while. He's definitely going downhill. What should I do? Restart the antibiotics?

Rooster recovering from dog attack has stopped eating/drinking

Hi Everyone, Sad to report that my rooster was attacked by my bad neighbor's dogs. His tail feathers were ripped out and he had several severe wounds including puncture wounds to his behind and wounds to his head and beak area. I cleaned him up, sprayed the wounds with Vetericyn (except the...

    What Gender Are My Chicks?

That's good to know, LaFleche. She was stressed due to the other three hens being killed by my bad neighbor's dogs, which left just her and my roo. Also stressful for her being the only hen and was the reason why I was trying to hatch some girlfriends for them both. Appreciate you taking the...

    What Gender Are My Chicks?

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking the same thing but am new to this. I hatched these myself and wasn't expecting so many cockerels. Is this normal? Is there a way to better the odds if I hatch more?

    What Gender Are My Chicks?

Hello, Everyone! Would appreciate some help figuring out the gender of these chicks. They are a little more than 6 weeks old. Their mom is a Dom and their daddy is a BR. (Please disregard the colored leg bands. Had only 3 colors I could use and there are 6 chicks.) Chick 1 Chick 2 Chick 3...

Please help ID my first hatch of six chicks - How many cockerels and pullets?

Greetings, chicken peeps! Due to bad neighbors, dogs reduced my first flock down to one roo and one hen so, I immediately set out to add some new pullets for both their sakes. My first hatching experience has been exciting and sometimes stressful but oh, so worth it. I incubated six fertile eggs...

Ideas to Raise Waterer/Feeder in Brooder

Thanks for all the great ideas! Plan to try them all as they grow and they are growing fast! Hope to put up some pics of Mom and Dad and the babies soon so y'all can help me figure out what I've got. Think Dad is either a PBR or mixed with Dom because he has a straight comb but Mom has the...

Day old silkie with splayed leg

Adorable! What a perfect name! I was concerned about the others picking on mine because it's so much smaller but, other than a little toe pecking right at first, which I put a stop to, they have been accepting of it, even when it was constantly chirping. I think it bothered me more than them...

Day old silkie with splayed leg

Hi Duck! Hope you've had success with your little cutie. I'm an absolute noob but, had a similar experience with my first hatch. One of them had leg issues and I tried everything! Your vet wrap looks a lot better than mine did. I tried that and the hair tie brace using a short piece of rubber...

Ideas to Raise Waterer/Feeder in Brooder

Couldn't find any wood blocks but, I did ramble around and found a couple of small square tins that once held Christmas treats. They have a little edge on the bottom so I turned them upside down and the lip is holding the waterer/feeders in place. Fingers crossed they can't knock them over!

Ideas to Raise Waterer/Feeder in Brooder

Thanks for the prompt reply York! They are in a very large garden tub in my master bathroom. They seem to have plenty of room but, some of them are starting to try to fly and I'm concerned that they will knock the water/feeder off the block. Do you attach it somehow?

Ideas to Raise Waterer/Feeder in Brooder

Hi Everyone! My batch of six chicks are all doing well although we did have a set back with the gimpy one but, doing great now. They are almost two weeks old and are very active and kicking shavings into the water and feed. No way to hang the waterer and feeder and would love to hear y'all's...
