    Old Hen Can’t Preen...Help Please

Can anyone suggest a way to strip off the waxy cuticle/coating off my old girl’s new tail feathers? I know they are very sensitive but I didn’t do it after her last fall moult because I assumed they would fall off. It took months and her feathers never spread out properly, the poor thing never...

    Closing nostrils causing distress-advice please

My 8 yr. old hen’s nostrils are slowly being closed off by her own tissue. She’s been coughing intermittently for 2 yrs. or so but has been healthy in every other way. No signs of contagious disease, but her nostrils look to be closing off, and not by mucus. Eating aggravates it as she eats...

    Picked On 2 Month Old

You should put Blue Kote on the areas that are wounded to discourage others from picking at that area. I am too new at raising chickens to offer any additional advice...sorry.

    Successive molts....dangerous?

No, no roos. Also, she is at the top of the pecking order and the other 3 hens get along w/ her just fine. Just as in her previous molt, she started losing the small feathers on her face and head. I just hope it doesn't continue into a full molt.

    Successive molts....dangerous?

My banty Leghorn finished a winter molt about one month ago and hasn't starting laying again yet. Now that the days are lengthening she appears to be starting another molt and I am concerned. Once again she is loosing the feathers on her head and is replacing them. I worry that this is going to...

Rescued rooster with severe leg injury...

I'd suggest doing a forum search on trimming spurs....should be a lot of good advice. Just use the search box located under "Logout". You are wonderful for taking in these birds. Poor guy, nasty wound, so needless.

My silkie has a squishy lump above his breast bone

So glad your Silkie is doing well! What is ACV? One thought about releasing the rabbit. A white rabbit will be very vulnerable to predators, unless he's in the snow. I'm not sure wild rabbits will take kindly to him, but I don't know a great deal about them. It makes sense though, as male...

    Is she an Australorp?

Definately not pink like a BA. Anyone, could she be a black Rock?

    Is she an Australorp?

She looks like my BA, but mine has slightly darker feet. Check between her toes, close to the feet, for pink skin. Sometimes it's more apparent in my hen than the bottoms of her feet. Pretty girls!
