So I am looking to supplement my chickens feed. I do not want to totally switch as I do want to me able to have my aunt still take care of them so feeding has to be easy.
I have read about fermenting so I get the process. Question is what type of feed should you ferment? Their normal pellets...
I have to say. I came on here for an answer to my question on what to grow I am taken back on being told I am using the wrong term or questioning what I have said in general. The comments are quite condescending. Or is that the wrong use of the word?
I have 9 hens and a rooster who have 100 Sq...
So my chickens have a very large fenced in area. Half is fully covered on 3 sides with a roof where there is 2 coops. They have a chicken door to the other half which is a fenced run.
My issue is with the outside fenced area. It used to be pasture but they have decimated the grass so it's...
So I noticed a few months ago one of my hens losing feathers in spots on her body. She seemed to get somewhat better in I think some might have grown back. Then I noticed 1 hen with missing feathers on her neck. Some broken. I've examined her and zero creepy crawls. Skin is clear except red...
So I have had laying hens for years. First year doing meat birds. I am trying to prep. I have the normal tote for the babies. Question is the growth rate. I have an outside pen for them where they have half the area covered on all sides and a roof to help with sun exposure and wind. When can I...
I have 12 hens. They vary in age from an older lady to a year old. None of them have had a rooster before. He has finished his quarantine period and has been in a fenced coop by himself in the ladies area for a few days. I let him out for a little bit supervised. My oldest hen was running at...
I am going to tag on with another question. I am in the process of making a dust bath for my girls. Problem is I am in the pnw and get lots of rain. I know they prefer to do this in the sun but I'm putting it under the other half of the run that is totally covered. Will they use it? I would love...
They have plenty of indoor and outdoor space. They get to be out in the very large outdoor run and get bugs. Then get 17% at least protein feed for supplemental. There are also 2 feeders so allows for more options to feed. Have not had issues for forever and this just developed last cpl months.
That is my suspicion. But of course I worry there is something else I don't want to miss. Have a roo and soon as he is out of quarantine I hope it quells any rift raft going on!
Thanks for your input.
So some of my girls have spots that have broken feathers or no feathers. Mostly around their neck. Once is at her wings neck and almost bare on her chest and tummy. Have looked multiple times nothing is crawling around.
Mites? Pecking each other at night on the roost?
Sorry it's difficult to...
I am not new to chickens I have 12 layers. I am new to a meat bird. I have property they can free range on.
Question 1- How long do they need a heat lamp? Since they grow quicker I'm trying to figure out the transition.
Question 2- since they can free range I worry about predators. Ravens...
So a couple of months ago I notice scaley leg mites starting on some of my chickens. For 2 weeks I did vasoline treatment. Then I did the elector soak on all of them for min 2 mins each. I waited a couple weeks after that and I just did another elector soak.
Since it wasn't really bad to start...
I just picked up this roo to hopefully join my flock of ladies. He is in iso and has these on his comb and wattles. Otherwise seems healthy so far. I am worried. This look like pox or blood from fighting?
