Sounds like somebody played a trick on you and added an egg. Would someone do that?
Nope! It just means that one of my pullets became a hen that day!
How many have you been getting from your 9 hens before the pepper? I added some to my feed tonight. We will see what happens in a...

we built our coop out of an old victorian pig pen, unbeknown to us at the time there is a drainage system running right underneath it which makes it more or less hollow under neath, so the rat(s) find holes in the weakened concrete and keep getting in, no matter how many holes we fill...
I thought about closing a corner of the coop off for a brooding hen to lay eggs. Hopefully that will work. Of course I wont do it till late spring in the warm weather. Any other info would be appreciated.

There was peeping in one egg but we had to leave for my daughters ball game, when we came back it was hatched but didn't live. the rest of the eggs I left them in there for another week or so then tossed them. I think all of them had chicks in them, but after I removed them from the...
I had a few free range chickens, no coop, laying eggs in the barn where ever. Easter egg hunt every day! One day I looked in a upright trash can and saw a hen sitting on eggs. I checked on them one day and there was 7 or 8 hatched out. At that point I made a pen to put the hen and chicks in...
I just built one with osb, I will probably put vinyl siding on it next spring, maintains free. The osb will hold up for the winter. Just a suggestion, if you put batten on it I would not put one across the bottom. That is where water and snow will sit and rot it out even if it is painted or...
Guess i am doing good. My were completely free range for about a year and half. I built a coop a couple of weeks ago for the winter plus didn't think we was finding them all, you know, an easter egg hunt every day. I was getting 3,4 maybe 5 eggs. Built the coop, locked them in for about 4 days...
If you used gas before you will HATE any electric stove! I never had a glass top, but I used to use a coil and hated it. With gas, when it is on , it is on. When it is off it is off, no warming up or cooling down.
I have had chickens for 1 1/2 yrs now. I just made a coop 3 weeks ago. Last winter they roost in small trees all winter unless it got real cold then they went in the barn. They all lived except the ones that feed the critters or got hit on the road. My 10x12 coop has 4 windows that are not...
