FOXES 2 down 3 to go. Got 2 in the front yard saw 3 more running from the back. This is getting way out of hand. Im hoping I will have a better chance when the corn and bean fields go down. Way scary.
I have checked for shovels. DH finally came down from the tree stand still mumbling and swearing. The GSD is still on guard duty. The girls are out, could not get past them with the feed buckets. I do have a new 22 that Im really wanting to try out. My turn in the tree stand.
According to my chickens they have contracts and pockets to pull them out of. My oldest EE is the spokes chicken and did I get read the riot act. I was told in no uncertain terms what the contract said and boy am I in trouble with the chicken union. There will be picketing, withholding of eggs...
That is the plan at this point. The girls are not happy about this but will get over it. The hard part now is getting in to feed water and do the chicken chores without them getting out. A lot of mumbly sweary people here today.
The electric fence is in the works now. Will extend the dogs fence 5 strand field fence to incorporate the run and coop. I don't think we have any thing much bigger than coyotes. Lost of vicious little stuff.
The assumed at this point Fox got in before lock down. May have chased the girls in there. Probably around dusk. The shavings looked like someone had turned them and left a big pile in the corner. The dogs are kept in with a 5 strand electric field fence, will extend that around the coop and run...
The run is fully enclosed with welded wire, the top too. I thought that was over kill until I the hawk landed on it. The GSD is on guard ,DH is sitting in a tree stand still mumbling and swearing. I have the trap ready to go. Hope this one is over soon.
I think the most confusing thing for me...
This happened while the girls were out. Found the fatalities while locking up. Will keep a closer eye on the girls while they are out and let the GSD camp out with them for a while. Will be setting the trap tonight.
So sorry for your losses. It never seems to get any easier.
Thanks for the help. Have never seen this type of behavior. Seems the predators are getting braver by the minute. Really needed to have an idea of what to watch for. Will set more traps and keep the chickens locked down. Will electric fences slow down a fox?
Went out last night to put the chickens up and found a huge pile of shavings in the corner of the coop. Dug through the shavings and found my Delaware and easter egger with what appeared to be broken necks. After looking around found the Light Bramaha roo under a cedar tree in the same...
They are here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was able to pick them up at 7:00 they were eating scrambled eggs by 7:15. All are well and happy. Thanks to every one for the support.
I'm not in Florida I'm in Indiana. I placed two orders this year one from McMurray one from Meyer trying to keep shipping time down to a minimum. At this point I don't think it would have mattered.
Trying to be happy for everyone getting theirs and trying not to be too envious. Just want my...
Was at the post office this morning before they opened. Nothing. The shipping label says hold for pick up. My local post office has my phone # about 15 times. We are on a first name basis.
