We have a group that has taken to roosting outside at night. They seem to do okay at just below freezing, but, in Tennessee we can get in to the teens or lower. I have tried and tried to get them back in to the coop at night, but they refuse. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
Hello-
We get fresh wood shavings to use on the floor of our 'egg-mobile' to cover the chicken manure, using the 'deep litter' method. I currently have a rather large pile of this mixture that has been sitting for at least a month, most of it much longer. How long does it take these wood...
I'd love to buy local and am looking for about 20 chicks (RIRs, Comets or Black Australorps--good egg layers, at least) and maybe some pullets, depending on the cost. I am in southern middle TN. I would prefer a non-GMO, non-soy chick/pullet, but would take non-GMO, not necessarily organic...

I had one of my beloved golden hens die today, when I went to shut the chickens tonight she was on the floor. (crying) I did notice some yellow excrement on the floor...is that a sign of something? Please help...can't let the whole flock suffer.
This morning I went to open up the coop and found one of my roosters lying on his back on the coop floor. He's still alive, but I'm thinking his neck is broken. I tried to give him some water but he wouldn't drink. I've never euthanized a chicken before...what should I do?
