My broody hen is bald. The feather plucker culprit has been identified. She sits and plucks the feathers out of the broody as she sits on her eggs.
I've discovered she also follows the other hens into the coop, when they lay their eggs and does it to them too.
Ha anyone had experience of...
My orpington girl is very unwell.
It started with her squinting her left eye, I originally thought she had gotten something in it, as she showed no other symptoms of ill health. When it did not stop and actually progressed to keeping it mostly closed I took her to the vets. He gave her an...
My lowest ranking hen has started attacking my top hen, pecking her head and doing cockerel fighting moves on her. My top hen runs away and is frightened. The rest of the pecking order remains unchanged everyone else treats the attacker as the lowest hen and respects the top hen as such. I am...
One of my hens has bumble foot. I am taking her to the vets tomorrow for a consulation and antibiotic injections. Will this course of treatment heal it without me having to cut her foot and remove the plug? I really don't fancy doing that to her.
I hoping someone can pass on good chicken keeping experience to help me deal with a new hen.
My new hen is very lovely and confident with people but aggressive with my other 4 hens. All she wants to do is fight.
On the first meeting with them 3 just hid and she and my top hen went at it like...

I can't believe how excited I am! It's so wonderful to walk down the garden and collect my beautiful, very fresh eggs from a warm pile of straw in my own chicken coop, rather than buy some off the shelf in a shop.
Brick even decorates...
My 21 week old hen has been a little grumpy of late. She's perfectly healthy (I've checked her thoroughly!). I opened the nest boxes this morning as my hens are pol, and she went straight in, rooted through the straw and plonked herself down. She would've stayed there all day if I'd have let...
I have Pekins and they are approaching 19 weeks old. What age would I expect them to start laying and will they still start as Autumn is fast upon us? Also, should I open the nextboxes yet? I have kept them closed off as I didn't want them roosting in them.
Thank you
My handsome boy is looking for a new, chicken loving home. He is 15 weeks old, hand reared from a day old chick and cuddled by my children. He is child, rabbit & tortoise friendly!
I really just want to keep hens, hence the reason for a new home. Please contact me any questions you may have.
