Hello,
I have not been on this thread in a while....but I have a question. Has anyone ever hatched out a Welsummer x Guinea chick/keet? In one pen, I have Welsummer and Ameraucana hens running with a Welsummer rooster. During the day, they all run in the yard with a pair of Guineas. I...
I would like to show everyone the results of one of my "experiments". Almost two months ago, I hatched Welsummer from two different breeders: one with Barber line, and the other with Grisham/Hall lines. I just wanted to see the difference as the pullets grew (I know there are many other...
Has anyone had success hatching Guineas? Yesterday, I hatched 16/18 Welsummer eggs, but only 3/18 Guinea eggs. I know that Guinea eggs take 28 days to incubate, so I put them in 1 week before the Welsummer eggs. I always have a good hatch rate with my chickens, but I have yet to have a good...
Thanks for the information, and encouragement. I was just about to throw them out, but I will wait and see what happens.
(I wish I would have thought of the hand warmers. I have a drawer full of them from hunting season).
Thanks,
Michael
I have an incubation question. I have an incubator full of Guinea and Welsummer eggs. They are/were due to hatch next Sunday. The big storms that came through last night knocked out our power for 12 hours. I wrapped the incubators with a wool blanket, but the temp. still dipped to 75 degrees...
The lady that works at my Post Office told me that all of the "flat rate boxes" are shipped by Fed Ex. When they leave the Post Office, Fed Ex picks them up and ships them to the nearest Post Office to the receiving person. She told me that she has had fewer complaints from customers that use...
FaykokoWV,
No worries. I'm happy either way. BTW, it does not have a pea comb. If it turns out to be a "weird" Welsummer, I'll put it in with my OE flock. I am keeping all of the eight that I hatched from your eggs, and selling the rest to my friend down the street (he just wants dark eggs...
I finally got my camera back. How many boys and how many girls do you see?
The first picture is one of them all.
This is 1/2 of them (a little closer).
This is the other 1/2.
This last one is of a strange Welsummer that was born first. It was the first one to hatch, and I saw it come...

I hope they are all hens!!
I hope two are roosters. I need to replace a couple of mine. Sorry about no pictures, my wife loaned our camera to a friend. When she returns it today, I will post pictures.
Question: Has anyone "helped" a chick out of the shell? I was about to clean...
My hatch is complete....14 Welsummer, 2 Black Sumatra, and 8 Olive Eggers. I will post pictures later tonight. Thanks faykokoWV, 8 of the new Welsummer are from eggs I ordered from you.

Hello all,
My Welsummers are all laying now. I just wanted to share a picture of the eggs that I collected this morning. I put them with the only thing green in my flowerbed (I cannot wait for spring).
Thanks,
Michael
Hello all,
One of my Welsummer pullets laid her first egg today...and it has spots (Two of her sisters lay eggs without spots, and the others have not started laying yet). The last picture is the spotted egg beside an egg from one of my EE hens. I always read/follow this thread, and I have...
Hello all,
The day has finally arrived. One of my five Welsummers laid an egg today (along with my barred rock pullet). Can you guess which one is from the Welsummer?
I do have some questions. I recently bought a HovaBator 1602N from a friend. This is my first incubator. Has anyone...
@ pinkchick,
I wish they were laying. I took that picture this morning. The only new layer I have around my place is an EE. She has laid a blue/green egg everyday for the past week (when she laid the first egg my kids thought it was an early Christmas). As soon as I get some Welsummer eggs...
Hello,
I just wanted to post updated pics of my Welsummers. In my last post (p. 157 of this thread), they were 1 month old. They are 5 months old in these pictures. I have 5, only three would stay still for pictures. Be safe and have a great Thanksgiving.
Hello,
I am new to raising chickens. I decided to start raising Welsummers about 6 weeks ago. I purchased 6 chicks from a Welsummer breeder near Memphis, TN. One of them has a white head, and a white stripe down its breast. I have since learned that this is not correct for a Welsummer...
