True story, they are delicious! And we are really only in it for the fun of it anyway

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

So, she finally laid today. I caught her in the nest box, and after she left there was no egg. Then later there was one dropped in the run. Unfortunately after the long wait, the egg is a light brownish beige. Minimal Welsummer in that cross I guess. It was a good size for a first egg at 46g...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Right?!?! They do have limited free ranging in our back yard, but it's a small yard with no low bushes or real places to hide eggs, plus they aren't out every day, and the days they are out, it's usually not till afternoon. Even so, we've combed the yard pretty thoroughly, so I really doubt...

Agreed, we have heard RIR or production red, but not pure those either, so we're still hopeful that the eggs might be interesting, the wait is killing us

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Here is my 23.5 week what was supposed to be a Welsummer, but apparently more of a cross breed. We are still hoping for some Welsummer to be in that lineage and give us a darker egg... Of course. She is my only hold out for eggs. All 5 of my other hens have been laying for a few weeks. She is...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

She may be a barnyard mix instead of a Welsummer, but she is turning out to be one of my prettiest birds

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I posted a bit ago. We recently found out that our supposed Welsummers are likely cross breeds. Maybe a RIR or production red crosses with a Wellie. Hoping this makes for better producing but still dark eggs??? We will have to wait and see, but boy are they pretty

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Yeah. We got EEs, BAs and golden sexlinks -2 each 2 week old sexed pullets- from Dare 2 Dream farms in Lompoc CA and had a great experience, they are all lovely, true to breed and WERE all girls! We wanted a darker egg producer to round out the basket and finally found a local breeder that said...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Thanks for the confirmation. We are new to chick raising and will know better what to look for next time. Luckily this is just or fun, so breed doesn't really matter and we only paid $3 per chick from a local breeder, so no real losses. I guess it'll be fun to see what happens from here.

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Ok. Here are the 3 chicks that were sold to me as Welsummers. They all looked pretty typical with chipmunk patterning, eyeliner and deep V head markings. But recently some have said that they are not Welsummers and appear to be a Barnyard mix of sorts. I'd like your opinions Here they were at...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I too am new to this chick thing, so not an expert by any stretch. I had 3 Welsummer chicks that looked identical at 1 day old. V on the head, eye liner, etc... But I too noticed a strong difference in 1 right around 3-4 weeks Here he is at 5 weeks and one of my girls at 7 weeks If I didn't...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Thanks! I had someone on another thread tell me that the Roo wasn't a Welsummer. I will try to post updated pics of all 3 this week, and I'd love your opinions.

Here are 2 of my Welsummers at 7 weeks. Pretty sure these 2 are pullets [/IMG] And this is my 3rd at 5 weeks (I don't have an updated pic). Thinking roo
