At almost 8 months of age and 1.5 months behind the rest of the flock, our wellie has finally started laying and we had our first 5 for 5 egg day today! Soooooo happy and love the contrast of that dark egg!
Our flock will all be six months old this coming Sunday, and they're all laying 5-6 days per week...except our wellie. We never really expected any of them to lay so well to start, especially in the middle of winter. We know the more heritage breeds tend to start laying a little later, but...

That would indeed be crazy-awesome!
Check ZIP 20152 (actually Chantilly, VA) as a primary, if possible. My DH works there and I am nearby and we've done all of our poultry receiving through them (and they're wonderful about it). Our local office (25425) is a possibility, but keeps...

Good to know they can be hard on intruders and easy on the girls...including banties, since the possibility of adding some shorter stature birds to the flock is out there. Any recommendations on where to look for a wellie roo? We really haven't had any luck on...

We've got a wellie, and she's part of our first flock. She's 5 weeks now and has been quite a pleasure to have. She seems to be the boss of the flock, so far, and is super inquisitive (like our dom), though a bit more aloof than the dom. While you can pick her up and she won't fuss...
Our little Wellie, one of our first five chickens ever. She's been a delight so far, very independent and inquisitive relative to the other chicks...she also seems to be becoming more and more the head chick of our little flock.
