    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

That is a very sad story. I never thought of my chickens eating stings! I will need to take a look around, I think the tarp over their shelter is fraying but I never would have dreamt that they would try and eat it. Very sorry for your loss

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Two hatched out today but the other one was under the wing and I didn't want to disturb them. When I get a good look at the other I will post a picture. There is sill one more Wellie egg in the bator so I still may have a few hens Luckily I know someone who will want a Wellie Rooster...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I just had one of my Welsummer eggs hatch that I bought from Whitmore Farms. Do you think this will be a Rooster? Or Hen? I know the markings & eyes are supposed to be how you tell but I am new to Welsummers & hope you all can help. Thanks for looking.

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Recently I had put a block in my run to set a water bowl on it, when I picked the block up a mother mouse came running out and her tiny babies fell off her. Before I could blink my chickens had grabbed every last one and ate them! They seemed to really enjoy this---so that was fresh "raw...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Two years--- I guess I will have to wait to see your birds . It is hard to hear critiques but I put mine out to learn from it. And that I did, but it was a disappointment to learn my guy has faults. He is a nice bird as a pet and I'd rather have that than a perfect bird who is mean (I...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Thanks for the answers. I am not completely sure I understand the double mating, or at least what it does. Is this done with the same parents? Is it to have chicks from different clutches for some reason? Do you just keep all males---breed and hatch again, and then keep all females...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Okay, please remember I am new to Welsummers. I understand my guy's grey fluff is a bad thing, but I will keep him as he's a good rooster. BUT- - - is it possible that after he molts that this will go away? Or once it shows up that it will only get more prominent? Oddly the third photo on...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Thanks for the input--- I don't know much about breeding to standards but I do agree about the temperament. We had a very mean Polish Rooster that got re-homed as I got tired of being attacked each time I went outside, he was beautiful but nothing is worth that. So far my guy eats out of my...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

thanks, do you think it will get more gray/white? Any chance it can go away . If it does not I guess that means I shouldn't breed him. . . . too bad because he is such nice bird with a calm disposition. Since my pullet came from the same breeder I am to assume that she will also not be...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Here is a picture of my young Welsummer Rooster: another pic of my pair: How bad is it that he's recently gotten some white at the base of his tail? Does anyone have a picture of the "ideal" Welsummer?

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hi All --- I just want to join in and learn more about this wonderful breed. I purchased three chicks from a BYC member who lives near me. I ended up with two roos and one hen. (I found someone looking for a Wellie Roo so I re-homed one of the boys) So now I have a pullet and a roo both...
