    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I only have one, but I will speak for her. She's a scrapper, chases all other birds out of our yard regardless of their size. She's very adaptable I have moved their pen several times and they were relocated to our new house. She would not do well in a small coop. She is the boss of our...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hachi, our resident escape artist. I love her so much. She loves to sing the song of her people around 830am...and she doesn't lay her eggs until noon.

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Thanks! It dawned on me this morning that with my son needing to show her this summer that I need to leave her wings and see if she continues to get out of the 4ft fence/consider covering. She, miraculously, stayed in yesterday. It may have been too much work for her, haha.

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

She's a nut but I love her. Such a character. Runs wide open to me when I get home from work. I'll try the deer netting cover and see how that works. She was actually inside the fence when I got home today. She's just a forager. She walks our yard pecking around, comes on the porch to rest for a...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hachi. Our welsummer, Hachi (I've posted a few times about her) was a very aloof young bird. Didn't want to be touched, picked up, but there was no nosier being on the planet. She started laying beautiful speckled eggs at around 7 months of age and now wants to be picked up all the time. SO, the...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Thank you so much for posting those pics! So beautiful! Is that a particular hen laying the speckled egg or do they vary from day to day?

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Still waiting on my Welsummer to start laying. She's shaking her tail feathers which she never did before, her comb has really taken off lately and is bright red but no squatting. Given her personality (jumps up on the trampoline rails to take in her domain), it's hard for me to imagine her...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

How much room will they have? I have a really small coop/run so mine actually free range in our suburban backyard during the day. I do not have issues with predators at present and I pray this continues. That said, I don't think my welsummer hen would do well being confined in the coop I have...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

My welsummer, Hachi, is 6 months and not giving any behavioral signs that she's ready to lay. I think welsummers are curious but aren't into love like other breeds. Hachi is friendly but would rather do anything other than be picked up. She's reserved.

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Quinn! I still love that name! The Speckled Sussex is so beautiful! How is her personality? Is she noisy? We are moving Friday and my husband was outside dismantling the trampoline last night. Our Welsummer (14 week old girl), Hachi, is very nosey and followed him every step of the way...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Good morning! About what age did your welsummers start laying? They seem to grow pretty quickly. Our hachi is a beast at 18 weeks

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Precious and she looks so cuddly! Mine (hachi) is fairly shy, too, but so beautiful. She's 3 months now. Their feathers are gorgeous!

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

She was trying to be crafty tonight and dodge being put up for the evening. Ran in between the privacy fence and the coop before she realized she couldn't go all the way through. Apparently chickens don't have reverse. She waited for me to scoot it out from the fence, pick her up, and get her...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

We have a now 11 week old Welsummer pullet, Hachi. She is my son's girl..he plans to show her in 4h and also in the state fair. She's so beautiful, unbelievable forager in our subdivision backyard. She can jump roughly a foot off of the ground to get things off of bushes or to snag a mealworm...
