DH reports that the first Welsummer egg has been laid, unfortunately it was broken. Don't know if it was broken by the pullet that laid it or by another jealous pullet. LOL. The pullet is approximately 21 weeks old. We have 10 more Welsummer pullets that are the same age. So we should start...
Somehow that bad boy got out of the cage last night. The cage was in with our laying hens. My husband found him in the coop roosting with the ladies last night and left him. He thought if he got out of line with them they knew how to take care of him. He is still smaller then they are. He...
One of our teenage roos Cornelius (DH is original I know) has become agressive with the ladies. We think he inadvertantly killed one of our young BCM hens yesterday doing the wild thing. She was fine in the am but when DH went out to check a little later she was dead. Later on in the day he...
The three in the background are some of our Welsummers that are 18 weeks. We have a total of 14. The one coming out of the coop is a birchen Marans cockrel.
We have 14 Welsummer that are still young, though the roos almost sound grown up when they crow. I am excited to see their eggs. I know it will take some time for them to develop fully but patients is all I have.

Mine are crowing very well and they are only 11 - 12 weeks which I thought was odd. I expected them to sound more like an adolescent boy at this age. I have older roos that don't crow as well.
We are raising our first batch of Welsummer we received in March. They were approximately a week old when we received them. I am guessing they are 11 or 12 weeks. The cockerels are already crowing. Thank goodness we have 15 acres and no restrictions. Our neighbor loves the sounds of our...
