    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I love my Wellies and they are 23-weeks, but are still laying small/medium-sized eggs. The egg color is GREAT! Terra Cotta with dark brown speckles. Will they get bigger? I want to separate out my three Wellie hens and my Wellie Roo and hatch some eggs...does egg size have a lot to do with it?

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I am really happy with my Wellie eggs! Terra Cotta, dark speckles, and getting bigger. Still, not the size of the Golden Comets or White Leghorns, but that's ok! Adding variety to the egg basket in the morning! I have three Wellie hens and one Roo.

Got my first Welsummer egg yesterday!!! SO COOL! Thought I'd share it with you guys. It's not big yet because she just started laying, but perfect shape and color!

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Yes, thanks! We actually have an established farm stand of 10+ years or so in front of our house on a busy county road. We sell fresh veggies, fresh cut flower bouquets, used golf balls (my parents live on a golf course with hundreds of golf balls in their back yard!), pumpkins, and now EGGS...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I am hoping to see an egg at some point this spring--I haven't read that Welsummers are some of the early ones...my flock of 36 were almost all born in the end of August, so they'll be 18 weeks on Monday. I'm expecting some of the red sex-links to start soon and maybe my Pioneer/Dixie Rainbow...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I may be wrong since my Welsummers aren't laying yet, but from what I've read, people describe a typical Welsummer egg as "terra cotta color with speckles." Maybe that's the one you've mentioned? My girls don't spend a long time in the nesting boxes, so I'm sure I could miss that!!

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

This guy I'm keeping doesn't seem as inclined to fight with the other Roos (and we still probably have 15 or so...) and he's easy for me to pick up. Plus, he's pretty and shiny. Best excuse I have to keep him, I guess. Just glad the other two have nice homes to go to! That will make 6 sweet...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Thanks...that's what I was afraid of. *Sigh* Well for the sake do all three Roos, I'll just go with my gut and pick the darkest Roo in color and comb. He also, incidentally, is the nicest and most tame. The other two are officially sold for $10 and $15 each! And to great homes with a...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I didn't want to clog up this thread with tons of pics of my three Welsummer Roos, but would you all be so kind as to pick which one you would keep if you had to keep one? I have two very nice folks that want a Welsummer Roo this weekend, so even though they're young, I feel like now is the best...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

As I'm trying to figure out which Roo to keep, what should I be looking for? One guy has the darker comb and darker red hackles. Better choice? I'm not looking to show and I'm not sure if I'll keep either as I go forward--just excited that someone wants one of these guys so I'd like to get him...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Shoot. Pics went out of order. Oh well. Tried to throw a pic in of a pullet--Welsummer or Brown Leghorn?

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

This is my first batch of chicks, all 9-weeks-old, and these guys are supposed to be purebred from Chicken Scratch Poultry. The wind was ruffling the second roo's feathers in the last pic--I'll see if I took a better one. Trying to pick one to keep, one to sell. Thanks!

Sorry to hear that news!! :( Would anyone on here be able to confirm if these are Welsummers? Specifically, Welsummer Roos? Thanks!
