Where are they located? I can only do hens at this point because I already have 2 Roos. I'm very curious as to the size! Mine are all standard size.

Thanks! Know anyone maybe closer the the greater LA or Orange County area? Unfortunately Anza is at minimum about 2.5 hours away.... I mean I've gone about 2 hours for birds...it would just take more planning.

We have a SFH and SF roo. I've been calling the mixes "Flowerolles" because they offspring have all been really great looking bird and have great personalities!! I'm not a breeder or anything, just try to hatch our own eggs especially of that mix because we've fallen in love with them! Adding...

The pics were taken 5 days ago. You are correct, the chicks at the time were about 3.5 weeks old. Thanks for the insight and input! I sure hope the crested one is a pullet!! I love crested birds, and love the crested SFH even more. Omg! Now I know why my Uno, my SF X SFH cockerel, didn't show...

They are awesome! That's why I got the 2 new chicks. I wish I could have more, but I'm limited in space and the confines of suburbia. I generally only have 1 breed of each in my "collection." Even her offspring, which I dub "Flowerolles" (x Faverolles) are awesome. They seem to have the best of...

I only have 1 SFH and 2 chicks, so really limited experience. FWIW, my SFH went broody 3x this Spring/Summer!! She started laying in March, and to my surprise, she went broody a few weeks thereafter. I let her sit on some eggs and raise them when they hatched. About a month after she kicked...

I'm not great with sexing chicks. Can y'all give me a second opinion? I think chick 1 might be a roo. The comb is a little bigger than the other one, which I think is probably a pullet. Thanks! CHICK 1 (darker back and more white feathers): CHICK 2:

Everyone's handsome roo pics makes me want to share pics of my cockerel, Uno. He's not a pure SFH...his mama is a crested SFH, and his papa is a salmon Faverolles. Uno has very neat coloring with blue that probably come from his mama, as well as an awesome hairdo and an elegant stance. His beard...

so, the Newbie hatchling from late yesterday afternoon almost didn't make it. When I checked back at around 7-7:30pm, mama had moved the babies to the nest, except Newbie, who couldn't walk yet. Newbie was shivering and cold and still wet...must've been left for 1-2 hours. I stuffed him under...

Woohoo! 7 out of 8 so far! Mama had almost abandoned 2 unhatched eggs a few times today to care for the hatchlings, but each time she moved, she would accept the eggs back if I put them in front of her. One was pipped and looked like I might have to intervene. However, I just went to check and...

Ok thanks. I'm trying to do some sleuthing to find out if the extra egg was stolen from a SF or whether she laid one during first couple days of going broody.

Agree! While I enjoy the process of raising chicks, being able to witness Mother Nature do her work is priceless. Sofie now has hatched 6 eggs, with 2 more eggs left. One egg has pipped and peeped, and I don't think the other egg is viable...it's already cold and light compared to other egg...
