Thanks. I am picking 5 more from Chris Herzog tomorrow that he hatched from his birds (originally came from JWhip). Very excited about that too. Chris is a great guy!
Okay, I finally got a minute to take those pictures. Also to clarify...I marked each egg as it was put into the incubator as to whether it had strong or weak chick movement in the egg. Only one of the ones marked weak hatched and it died before it even dried off. The eggs with the strongest...
I purchased a dozen of each. He sent 14 Barred Rock, but 2 broke in shipping, and sent 18 Cornish, but 1 broke in shipping. I was hoping for a better hatch from the Cornish since I started with so many eggs. Most of the ones I lost seemed to develop right up until around the time of lock down...
Okay...my hatch is all over and done with. I had 6 Barred Rocks hatch, but one didn't make it...so have 5. I also have 5 Cornish as well as 3 German New Hampshires from shipped eggs. Here are a couple group shots: I will pull the BR out and try to get individual pictures tomorrow.
Oh, and yes...
Jeremy Woeppl - JWhip on here sells day olds. You can PM him here or check out his webpage. His farm is called XW Ranch if you want to look him up on Google.
They are still working on hatching. I have had 4 Barred Rocks hatch so far with another egg pipped. Six of the Cornish eggs have hatched at this point and I had one die in the shell (fully formed no internal pip).
I can't open the incubator to check the remaining eggs yet though: I have 3 duck...
Mine started hatching this morning. I put 7 Barred Rocks and 9 Good Shepherd Cornish in for lock down. Out of those about 3 BR and 2 Cornish were marked as questionable. I didn't see any movement when candling (use a 900 lumen LED light), but did have some small movements when I float tested...
Safe journey to your hatching eggs and best of luck for a SUPER hatch! Your eggs aren't traveling as far as mine did, so maybe shipping will be kind to them!
I know what you mean about temptation. I have a much bigger want list than wallet or room to put them!
All the NH I have right now are...
Thanks Robert!
I have local access to birds that I believe originated in Frank's flocks: Chris Herzog has some that came from Jeremy Woeppel that I believe came from Frank. However, when I saw Frank was selling directly to the general public I couldn't resist. I may even order more of his...
Sorry to hear about the shipping damage. I wasn't crazy about the way the eggs were packed, but I have seen much worse. Thank goodness he is so generous about extras so you still had a good amount to go into the incubator!
The way it looks right now, 7 of the BR eggs I got from Frank are going...
Just received my eggs from Good Shepherd. I lost two of the 14 Barred Rock and 1 of the 18 Conish eggs due to shipping (too bad those numbers weren't reversed...lol). Anyway, the remaining eggs air cells look solid so I will be good to go for putting these in the incubator tomorrow!
You betcha Chris: I had that exact same thought! I am supposed to be getting a dozen BR eggs from Jeremy in March too. Hopefully, between the two I'll get a good showing!
Once they are all big enough to pick through we'll have to see if I have any extra cockerals you can use.
I got a surprise phone call this afternoon from none other than Frank Reese himself. He wanted to personally let me know that he had shipped my hatching eggs (got a dozen of his BR and a dozen of his Cornish) and give me the tracking information. He said to keep his number and if I had any...
Okay, that is strange then: I personally know how well you take care of your birds. I can't imagine what would be causing this. My first instinct would be that your temps are off, but if the other breeds hatched well, that pretty much rules that out. I sure hope that somebody can help you with...
Wow, glad I decided to read this thread. Chris, are the eggs you are having issues with directly from Good Shepherd or from Jeremy: Any chance it may have been some sort of shipping damage? I have a dozen GSBR hatching eggs ordered from Frank Reese for delivery later this month or March and...
Jeremy will ship chicks...they were $10 each with a 10 chick minimum order plus shipping when I checked in November.
As to Good Shepherd...During my email exchanges with Frank, he said that he does not ship chicks. He had someone that would do it and would redirect me to them. I didn't want to...
