How to Break a Broody Hen

No, she normally sleeps by the doorway keeping guard. I've heard sometimes they will sleep in the nest box but I haven't seen any of mine ever do that until now. She seems to be normal now. She was and still is out with the girls. Yay! I think we are not broody anymore!

How to Break a Broody Hen

So I finally let her out this afternoon and she did great. Stayed out of the coop all day. I always check on the girls before I go to bed and she was laying in the nest box... I picked her up and took her out and she walked over to the roosts and didn't go back to the box. Yet. She didn't puff...

How to Break a Broody Hen

Don't say that! I don't want to do this again. I love the Mrs. Hyde. SO TRUE. When it first started I was like what in the world has gotten into you! Little did I know. LMAO! She actually seem to act pretty normal now so I hope.

How to Break a Broody Hen

We ended up putting mesh on the bottom of cage. She has been in for 3 days now. I let her out after 1 day and she did great. A whole 5 hours outside and than all of a sudden ran inside! 3 days later she has stopped puffing up and growling when I or the chickens approach so we will see. She isn't...

How to Break a Broody Hen

Ok, I put one sort of in the middle. Of course she is avoiding it like its some sort of evil thing. She will learn to stand on it? Before I put her in her "punishment cage" I let her free range and little and for about 2 hours she acted normal eating bugs and had a dirt bath but after that she...

How to Break a Broody Hen

I have a question about this. I finally put her in the cage yesterday but I'm not sure how to keep it off the ground. It is a dog crate that has a pan on the bottom that I have taken out. It was large squares on the bottom and she sort of falls right thru. I put it on the ground because she kept...

How to Break a Broody Hen

That would make a lot of sense. One of my chickens sort of went after her today and this chicken never causes any issues so it was weird to see her angry. I hope when I get back it doesn't take her long to knock it off. I'm going to feel bad about putting her into a crate but it has to be...

How to Break a Broody Hen

Ok, thanks for everyone's help. I will be out of town Saturday till Monday so I will have to put her in the punishment area when I get back. We have a friend watching them but I don't trust them with a chicken locked up. My waterer and feeder last a few days I just need someone to collect eggs...

How to Break a Broody Hen

Wow, this thread is awesome. My white leghorn just went broody a few days ago and I read quite a bit of the thread but I have a couple questions I didn't see. I'm sure they are somewhere in this thread but I'm not sure where. I have 4 nest boxes but all my chickens only lay their eggs in 1 box...
