I believe Bee said this will be her first grand baby. How exciting!!
I think once we counted, and my grandma had somewhere around 48 grand kids and 43 great grand kids, and some great great grand kids, and a few great great great grand kids.. She had 14 kiddos of her own, so that's why the...
I sure wish I could get one of my hens to go broody!! It would be a new, interesting experience for myself! Although, I do enjoy incubating eggs and playing mama. There are benefits to all methods. With broodies, the hen takes care of everything- I can sleep at night!, with my own incubation, I...
Lacy Blues, you're TALENTED! I love it! I wish I could draw something more than stick figures!
As for the broody red hen, she is adorable. I wish I knew where to get one of those! I was thinking that I've read that once chicks go into the brooder, it's suggested that the temp of a heat lamp...
I'm not too familiar with the float test but I have heard that sometimes it has been wrong. Do you open the said duds to see what went wrong? I'm not familiar with this test. I just over-worry that I would interpret the results incorrectly. I do believe that it works. :)
I also candled my eggs today and tossed 2 of them. I've been having temperature fluctuations since then. Ahhhh! I don't want to smell them stinking though.
Yay! Doing the happy dance for you!!
Mine isn't too dark, really. It's obvious that there is a yolk in there and it's doing something. It definitely looks darker than when I first put them in the incubator. This one in particular has little floating things in it too. Brown eggs just aren't very good at letting us see in them...
What day are you on again? 7? 8? It's hard for me to keep track because I know a few people who are incubating eggs. I have found that even in the lightest brown eggs it's difficult to make much out. I've got a clutch of eggs in the incubator and they will be starting day 4 today around noon...
Now I am really interested to see how this goes! Go for the second nest!! I don't know for sure, but I don't think that a slower development would necessarily cause the chick to be deformed, just that since it would cause the egg to be incubated for longer, it would prolong the possibility that...
I am going to have to try the homemade laundry detergent. I have always wondered about it, but never knew it was so easy to make! Hope the eggies are doing well while you are gone! Probably so!
I have noticed that in my DIY incubator that the temps seem to be the most stable during the day, after 10am. It starts rising at about 8pm and then after I turn the eggs at 9:30-10pm, it rises again until about midnight/1am. Then it cools down and is stable until about 5am, when it wants to...
For while you're away! If you're anything like me, you will be going crazy wondering if your temps are holding or if they are spiking. For some reason, I don't really worry as much if the temperature drops, but if they get too hot is what I worry about. I was out for the day yesterday, and by...
Hi, BeeKissed! I'm following along! I think that egg hatching doesn't have to be rocket science. I bet you will be able to get a pretty good hatch rate. :)
