    North to Alaska!

I used to have a neighbor with this dog that would search out and eat all watermelon berries! :lau I didn't know that. I have visited over there, but never lived there. Is it maybe a "live on an island" verses "live on the mainland" thing?

Huh... not even sure what grey currents are... clearly I don't have those. :idunno There are a bunch of different tiny ground growing berries around my house, watermelon berries, raspberries, and garden strawberries. I really like salmon berries.. but those need more moisture. And I am...

The people I know, that really like Alaska... if they move down they come back. Truly, Anchorage is a tiny town compared to so much down there. Outside is crazy crowded, and crazy different, as well as more judgemental on outward appearances alone. Alaska is better. Crazy cool that you have...

Howdy and welcome. But... Anchorage Alaska..... or Fairbanks.... or Sitka? Way different temps.

Well... bigger than some Alaskan cabins... but of course those have an outhouse..... I never have lived in a tornado place... hurricanes, yes... but those are not so bad.

Actually yes, I am very fond of Wyandottes. They also come in many colors (big variability with each color in regards to egg laying and temperaments) The Icelandics, I researched them when they became all the rage... turns out that historically they were kept in the house...which explains how...

It needs nice big vents...somewhere. it could have a huge open window (covered in wire of course) open to the barn, so cold air can't blast right in.

Yeah... I am not sure how people decide why a breed should go on the "cold hardy" list. Personally though, I prefer to skip all frostbite, and I have no idea how that is supposed to be done with single combs.

    North to Alaska!

There are a bunch of local breeders, especially in the Palmer and Wasilla areas. The best way to find them is to get on Facebook and find the Alaska Poultry and Livestock page...and many others. As to best breeds... I like Sussex, but their small single combs mean that all of those points on...

Well, what area are you moving to? None is impressively different from Sitka. :hu How many hens? Do you already have a house? And what time of year are you coming up?
