Breeding and Raising and Hatching of Barnyard Chickens!!!!!!!!!!

My big roo with the huge comb and points did get frostbite on the tips and lost every tip. Still has a huge comb, but it's "pointless" now.

Breeding and Raising and Hatching of Barnyard Chickens!!!!!!!!!!

I can tell you first generation crosses with a silkie will result in normal feathers. Learned that one last year. As for colors my guess would be they would carry the roos coloring as I think the white is recessive, but don't quote me on that because color genetics are not my strong point.

Breeding and Raising and Hatching of Barnyard Chickens!!!!!!!!!!

lol Yes, he's a very big boy...lol Very heavy. But he's a good roo. He's very protective of his girls and lets them eat first and he's pretty much a gentle man. The only problem I have is he has just started trying to bully my Spitz roo from the other coop when I let them out to range together...

My big roo has a huge comb and it looks like the tippy top of about three of his got frostbite. This is him: I need to put up some new pics of some of my little mixes, it's been a while....lol

Breeding and Raising and Hatching of Barnyard Chickens!!!!!!!!!!

That's what I like, they are all so different and there's an element of surprise. I like pures too and would like a few more, but I can't imagine breeding all of one breed and having a variety. To each their own, it just bores me...lol I'd have to have a large farm dedicated to chickens so I...

Breeding and Raising and Hatching of Barnyard Chickens!!!!!!!!!!

I think we're all like that. Even though we have nothing to do with genetics, we all puff up like peacocks whe we get "special" birds....lol

Breeding and Raising and Hatching of Barnyard Chickens!!!!!!!!!!

That's what I love about mixes, the surprise of what they will look like. My youngest are almost 9 weeks and I'm still curious about what they will look like fully grown...lol Congrats on the little ones.

Me too. But I can't hatch anymore this year. No room. If only someone would hire me to incubate for them....lol

Breeding and Raising and Hatching of Barnyard Chickens!!!!!!!!!!

He's the only roo I have that is like that. He's fine with the my other roo that is in that coop, just likes to attack people. I hatched and reared him and he's just a bad name I can't say here..lol

Breeding and Raising and Hatching of Barnyard Chickens!!!!!!!!!!

I ended up with 5 nns last hatch, including my nn/silkie plus my original nn/ee hen. My nn roo is on his way out the door for being overly aggressive. I also have 4 silkie hens. If the nn/silkie would only turn out to be a roo, I'd be happy....lol
