I live in Prineville, and didnt use any heat in the coops or waterers at all, we just had to bring them fresh water 2x a day, but I got a no freeze hose and it worked great! As long as I kept the snow out of their run, they did great.
Any chance of lavender or blue orpingtons in central Oregon? Seems that everybody around has chickens but can't find local lavender orpingtons anywhere nearby.
From what I can tell, it depends on what your property is zoned as and how much property you have, I went down to city hall planning department and asked for the info. I think you can look it up on the website though if you know what your property is zoned as.
Successfully moved 21 chickens 1100 miles north to Prineville, it took 10 pet carriers with sliced watermelon and cucumbers for the trip, and we drove thru the night with the AC on to avoid them overheating, but all of them made it alive! I had alot of trouble finding info on traveling so far...
New to Central Oregon and getting ready to haul my 20 chickens on a 2 day journey from Southern CA to Prineville. Need to construct the proper chicken house for them, any tips on things I need to consider differently in constructing one in this northern climate?
