    12th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Even with one ditzy broody, I prefer it over incubating. No electricity, I’m not tempted to candle, and if an egg doesn’t hatch, it wasn’t meant to.

The two 3-week-olds went out today. They were bored in the house. Frost tonight, so I’m going to check on them now, but expect them to be fine.

Who has a link for the next hatch along? I decided to give my broodies eggs 45 minutes ago instead of waiting, and giving them feed store babies in a few weeks.

These are actually the first chicks he’s ever seen. He was actually last year‘s male chick. At least, I think so I’m looking at the picture. His uncle is the main roo as far as I know. Every time I think I can tell the difference, I doubt myself a day later.

Daddy!!!! :wee Then he ran away along with the mother(s). It does answer my question. When chicks see other chickens, they run to them... and the adults run away.

Definitely! I think Duckling was four when I had to put shoes on two quail. I swear I only managed it because she had tiny fingers to manipulate their tiny toes!

You can Band-Aid their legs together, or use a hair band.

  17. BullChick

    12th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Don’t worry about it yet. If they still are like that tomorrow, use a Band-Aid to make a shoe.

You can leave the single chick in there for another day without issue. If nothing else hatches, get more from a feed store or put it in with a bird mirror or CD to make it feel less alone.
