Hi debir couldnt resist a reply-- mine are 4.5 weeks old and happy to say all made it! Good to know they will even out in size because even though they are all Jersey Giants with same hatch time, there is some variation in size!
Hi Debir!
Sounds like the chick raising is going well and the little turkey poult made it! Mine are fine as well- we sort of wimped out on the A frame -- we made the A and then found all these window screens in the basement so just put the A frame at the bottom of the run with 4 windows screens...
Our chickies love the tree branches they are always hopping on and off.... My hatchery chicks are 12 days old -- so active and busy in the 4x4 cardboard box/run I set up for them (its attached to their dog crate brooder--- Not liking the idea of having to clean it out regularily though-- our...
Aww thats a great set up-- my dad was the one who built us our coop too (hes the handy one in this family)-- have you tried a fresh corn on the cob I know its a bit of a splurge but its so fun watching them eat it....Chicken TV!
Sounds good so far debir, if the hen can get that little poult thru the first couple of weeks all the better right?
I have utilized a 4 ft by 4ft cardboard box as an indoor run attached to my wire dog crate(that has the brooder lamp on it-- my 9 yr old used it all weekend when I was away and all...
Wow I think the broody hen is surely the way to go!
How does that work for a Turkey doesnt it outgrow momma hen pretty fast? Or does it not need to be in her feathers to stay warm by the time that happens? Keep us updated- did the poult make it?!
Debr! I still havent figured out how to post pics! I promise to start working on it.... As to your Brooder issue how bout using a wading pool (somewhere someone posted a nice wading pool set up for chicks it looked pretty quick to set up in a pinch)...
Our Box brooder is doing pretty well I left...
My Babies are here! Arrived this am 26 hours after hatching! (Hatch time was on the shipping box- WoW)....All arrived happy and healthy I hand watered them and put them on trays of crumbles they are now pecking away on their own....They are sooo small though I guess I thought Jersey Giants would...
Thanks for the puppy pee pad OK ! I will def. try them -- am excited and also very anxious about the day olds coming soon! Will I be a good and careful momma? Am sad to report that a half hours inattentiveness caused the loss of one of our 4 week old chicks (the biggest one) I knew my big dog...
AWESOME they are so Cute! I was thinking of using puppy pee pads ( I have a leftover box) for the first few days instead of paper towels-- my little guy are due next week I am nervous... and excited.... I found a one inch round plastic cover from the weed whacker line package (it was the...
Coop remodel is slow-- we got the run almost complete (its a 6' by 8' section attached to the coop so we can put their feed and water in there undisturbed from the dogs, I plan to let them free range during the day when I am home) just need to cover it-- the sections are all cut out for the...
I got my first six from Craiglist! Really am techno impaired ( that s why no pic for my Avatar) and have no idea how to post pics! These first set are 3 weeks old-- and I am using a regular water feeder for them-- was thinking of using the bunny waterer on the next set of 15 that arrive in the...
I went to tractor supply today and bought a bunny water bottle-- some one else on the forum used it and it worked fine (you might want to guide them to it the first day or so)-- and should be way harder to dirty then a standard waterer... We get 6 of our chicks tommorrow-- so will see...
Hey all its the first time for me ordering too (and of course right after I ordered, I found an ad on Craigslist for Jersey Giants-- the first one ALL YEAR- so got those too)...
We built the Purina Coop-- I think it is only designed for 8 standard hens-- my dad is in town (he is much handier...
