    February 2017 Hatch-a-long

This is so good to hear, because I am doing major transitions right now. 1) I have a very big new coop and run set up, and last night I moved my peahen and her two nice hen buddies into it. They have all been living in the miniature barn that was on the property, but I may end up remodeling...

I now have a five week old Sebright who doesn't seem to like chickens. This is my sole February hatchling. She is afraid of the young Silkie and Brahma pullets. She hides from them and cries. She despises the two-day-old chicks I introduced her to. She stays far away from them, and shoos them...

Poor little one. Is the scissor beak very severe, or not too bad? I am hatching Easter Eggers this time around, and I hear they have a genetic predisposition to scissor beak - about a 1% chance. It's not correctable like splayed legs, is it?

My utterly spoiled February baby, the Sebright. She rides all around the house on my shoulder, hand or head. She is completely content to be there while I wash dishes, and the dogs sit and watch her, but don't make a move. I am keeping a close eye on them, so they don't get any ideas. They get...

Cuuute chicks! Such pretty frizzles. Since I had just one hatch last month, the chick stays in the house and rides around on my shoulder while I fold laundry and cook. You have a lot of February chicks!

Wow, that is a long drive! We used to live in Pullman, WA, and would like to go back to visit... but the drive is just so long. Very glad you got through the mountain passes without treacherous ice or heavy snow. The rain is quite enough. Glad you are home safe!

LOL, I have the opposite situation. My tween daughter got so mad one day, when her friends came over and gave all their attention to the cute Silkie chicks, instead of playing with her. "Chickens are ruining my life!" she yelled, and ran out of the room as her friends cuddled the puffballs...

That is a LOT of snow! Reminds me of when I lived on the Idaho border. Our was just a tiny dusting today, didn't stick.

It's not cooperating here in Oregon, either. More snow today! Looking forward to seeing your follow-up pics later this month.

Haha, quick little bantams! Seramas are so incredibly cute - dolls of the chicken world. Okay, here are pics of my tiny darling, Firefly. (I gave her a little vintage compact for 'company,' but she'd rather be with me.)

Update: This one little Sebright is like no other chick I've hatched. At two days old, it is so alert, so upright, so agile and so FAST! I shall never be able to catch it when it is grown, so I hope it learns to come to me. So far, it enjoys perching on me, and is a chatterbox. It feels more...

That is a charming poster! I love vintage travel art. Best of luck to you with the gala! Enjoy! (I used to work in Hollywood, as a costume designer for stage. This bring back memories of times gone by.)
