    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

So far so good with the adult-chick introductions!

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

That’s exactly the encouragement I need to give it a try lol. Fingers crossed! Thank you!

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Would you suggest older or younger?

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

I’d love some opinions (again lol)! My chicks will be 6 weeks this week. They have been with my hen in a separate coop since the first week because my roos cuddled puddled too aggressively. I can tell my hen wants out BAD and back to her original coop. She seems miserable with the chicks (I...

Wow, yours are starting to molt already? That’s so early!

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

i think I’m approaching the separate stage, but I’ve never done this with rooster before. Can I separate the bully roo for a few days and then reintroduce him to reestablish the pecking order, like I would do if I had a bully hen? Or will roosters just fight more after reintroduction? I’m...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Which is hilarious because neither of them has ever “done it” right and fertilized any of my hens. They both go at it sideways….like, that’s her WING dude! 😂

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Wondering what you all would do about a rooster bullying another roo. These two have always gotten along and have been in the same coop since the younger one was a day old. The older one is now bullying him - not letting him out of the coop into the run, chasing him around. No real fights...

Ahhhhhhhhhh chicken math at its finest! Good luck on the hatches!

I hadn’t even considered it being from an injury, I just assumed deficiency. I’ll add castor oil massages to my routine - I have loads of it on hand. DMSO would be more difficult to get my hands on. Baby aspirin is doable too. Thanks for the advice!

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Oh that would be disheartening. Sorry to hear that! Hopefully later hatches were better. I have the little wry neck in the house now so I can keep an eye on it and give vitamins. If it recovers, I have a feeling it’ll end up being a little cockerel because I’m going to get so attached lol.

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Oof! This most recent hatch continues to try me. I already had 2 splay leg, 2 early deaths, and now I have the beginnings of wry neck. I’ve never had so many issues with one hatch before. I’m exhausted from it 😴

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

With my previous flock we had 2 silkies in with 4 RIR and white leghorns. We had no issues with bullying or anything since they were raised together. They got along very well and the big girls taught the silkies to roost up way higher than my silkies will go on their own now. The only issue we...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Then it’s settled! I’m separating them tonight. Will actually give me a lot of peace of mind given recent events. Thank you!!

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

I wish I was set up that well! Or rather, I wish my property wasn’t practically flooded right now so I could move things around to be set up like that. It’ll probably be a week or two before I can move my small coop (it’s a tractor coop) next to the run so they can have sight access. Think...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Honestly….not sure what the best move is. I can keep going as is and hope nothing else happens. I could take them away from mom and brood myself but I feel like that will be tough on mom and the chicks learn so much being raised by a hen. I could separate mom and chicks entirely (put them...

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Ugh. Down another chick. Seems like this one had a broken neck. Wondering if it got it head stuck through the wires of the cage or something. I’m starting to regret my decision to let mom raise all of them

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

The one roo is pretty aggressive when establishing his place in the cuddle puddle. I put mom and chicks in a wire crate within the coop. She’s not thrilled about it but I’ll see how that goes for now before separating entirely.

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

Down to 11 chicks 😭. One of the paints was crushed to death overnight by the adults. Wondering if this should be my cue to separate mom and babies (at least at night so the other adults can’t get to them)?

    Silkies - They’re simply SPECTACULAR!

As newbies to splay leg, we tried elastics, bandaids and finally vet wrap. OMGGG the vet wrap was so much easier and SO effective!
