You’re basically on a breeding plan that created a lot of the homestead duel purpose breeds of the late 1800s and early 1900s.

I take the view that American gamefowl are one breed, and within the breed are different bloodlines. The bloodlines can have physical or performance traits that vary between the lines and sometimes that causes people to consider a line a “breed” instead. Historically, American gamefowl were the...

I would say that a flock of healthy American hens will lay more eggs than a family can eat in a year. I don’t believe bloodline label matters. Its simply a question of whether they’re tightly inbred or not.

Historically it was quite common for roundheads to come out straight combed. Which should be expected where they we created by crossing in oriental pea combed blood but then bred back to straight combed Americans.

Sweater, Kelso, and Roundhead, ect aren’t really breeds. They’re all bloodlines of one breed, the American gamefowl. The labels are supposed to mean that the bird’s ancestors came from the named famous breeder, and there’s no way to know that looking at the bird. There are many people today who...

The fellow I get my Blueface and Hatch Americans from breeds huge birds, huge relative to my Cracker junglefowl hybrids. His brood cocks are in the 6lb range. That’s why I’m using them to cross into my Crackers to improve my Crackers’ size. Historically Old English gamefowl and old American...

My sonatol aseel struggled with humidity and thunderstorms. Both pure breds to their line and Liege crosses. I have to produce 1-2 dozen to get one that shrugs it off in a free range setting. The rest wash out after heavy downpours. Like the old farmer’s adage about turkey poults drowning after...

I do, but I’m in north Florida where winter can be like northern spring most days. Frost at night but no snow and a lot of greenery. I have several hens brooding and I also artificially incubate through the winter.
