    I think it looks like a female. If it is a male, it won't be long before you know. Barred rocks show their true colors early. I'm pretty sure that's a pullet though.

    This site is a wealth of knowledge. We just got our first chicks in March and have already learned so much. You should post your chicks again in a week or two so we can see how they are turning out. :)

    Those are saddle feathers. See on the cockerel, they are straight and pointy looking. They are also much shinier. They start about the middle of the back.

    @country girl44 You lighter chick could be a boy, but I would not start looking for a new home for it yet. That comb still says pullet. I have a couple BR girls that are lighter than the rest. If it's a male, the comb will be much bigger and getting red by 6 weeks. You wouldn't see the saddle...

    Hard to be 100% sure because there isn't a good view of the body. But I'm pretty sure you have a cockerel.

    Chick 1 looks like a pullet, but I think chick 2 is a cockerel.
