Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

Glad I don't have to worry about that, I have 5 brooder/grow out setups in the house right now (three in the dining room and two in the living room) and even have a dedicated room in the basement for grow out... My lady just goes with the flow...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

Growing fast, I integrated some 1 week later hatched peas and chickens with the Aug. 8 babies just the other day and no fussing or harassment from the older ones... Two more peas due to hatch overnight/tomorrow... And I'll be setting 6 more chicken eggs tonight or tomorrow once the peas...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

I hope this image is pretty self explanatory, yeah I know it's rough, did it real quick with the kids hanging on me... Top view looking down and a side view... Basically you make a box around the fan/light/thermostat, with an opening on each end (screened over) this box has a solid bottom to...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

Well in that case purchasing is probably a better option or find the company of a friend or family member that can help you out... But, as I said basic wiring... This is how the 'heat' light is hooked up to a water heater thermostat... About $13 in parts at most hardware stores.... I would...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

if you are just building a simple one with a mechanical thermostat, it's honestly still quite easy, and hardly requires anything more than basic electrical wiring... Yeah, building a fully automated one like I plan to do is beyond many, but building a decent basic one like I did for my hatcher...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

I used the bottom of the line Farm Innovators 2100 still air this year, I installed a fan and also extended the height about 2.5" to better accommodate peafowl height/size... I also put in a small USB (5 volt) humidifier in there to better control humidity... No autoturner as I did that manual...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

You can build one cheaper, especially if you have stuff laying around but as far as small incubators go if you have to purchase all the stuff and consider the build time, it's really easier/cheaper to just get the lower end foam ones... Around me the bigger farm supply stores have incredible...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

It does, but ironically my hatcher was holding temp so well that I'm actually using it as an incubator now that the season is winding down, it's deep enough that I keep the 'incubating' eggs on the lower level and suspend a plastic bus pan as a second layer for hatching... It's been working out...

Emoticons are now off to the right... On your phone/tablet you will need to switch to desktop view as the mobile version of the site doesn't easily do emoticons, there is a button at the bottom of the page to do the desktop/mobile switch... If using Tapatalk on your phone/tablet you have to...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

I know it's past Aug 8th, but today/tonight I have 2 chickens and 3 pea eggs due... One chicken pipped and zipped about four hours ago and is out... The other chicken pipped just a few minutes ago, as did 2 of the 3 peas... Time to get another brooder going, darn staggered hatches are murder...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

Here are a few pics of the birds hatched withing a day or so of Aug 8, a misc assortment of different colored Guinea fowls and three chickens... Still have a few pea, Guinea and chicken eggs in the incubator due in the coming weeks... Chickens are the two darker buff colored ones and the black...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

Depends on what your are monitoring... If you are monitoring your incubator setup to fine tune and tweak your incubation methods, you would not count clears/unfertilized or any other physically damaged eggs as they have no bearing on incubation practices... If you are monitoring your mating...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

Been busy with other things in life, but I have not forgotten about this, I will snap some pictures maybe tomorrow... My shipped in peas were a bust from the get go, but the shipped guineas, local guineas and my own chickens did well... And I should still have some local peas hatching in the...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

5 out of the 7 Guineas are now pipped, my Guineas eggs generally hatch at 25/26 days vs the stated 28 so they are right schedule even though they were technically set for hatch on the 8th...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

The first few clutches of eggs I hatched I was up pretty much the entire 24 hours, just took some quick naps but was constantly checking on them... Now, I just check up every so often and let mother natures do it's thing... I have a lone Guinea keet hatching today, he pipped yesterday (a...

Some birds just like some humans have reproductive problems ;) With that said as many have said during egg laying season (actually a few months before as well) you can give her (and possibly him) a better diet... I use brewers yeast as an all around supplement, it's loaded with all sorts of...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

My main incubator is in the basement, old farm house so the windows are small and limited, easy enough to cover one window and get it plenty dark during the day... When I candle out of the upstairs 'hatcher' I just step in a closet and close the door behind me, black as night...

Incubating eggs to hatch about August 8th

Don't stress over temporary humidity spikes, it's the average humidity that is most important and even that is arbitrary as long as the air cell develops properly and the eggs doesn't gain or lose water weight disproportionately... Trust me when I say a brooder bird can't magically lower the...
