Yes - always something ! :) I suppose the angle the bird is holding their head could muddy up the issue too - having to evaluate the bird at rest? Standing at ease? It could look one way in different poses - ha ha

Also - I haven't seen a perfect tail set ... but I think I get what a squirrel tail is now ... is this a typical disqualification? D'Uccles seem to have this as a standard ... to me - a very upright tail makes the bird look alert and muscular - so from a pure looking at it point of view - I...

Thanks - lots of new info for me - an openly declared newbie ... Another reason for a single system is space - I want my breeding pairs to have have decent space to live and still be separated from the rest .... and we certainly can't all have 100 acres for such intricate breedings. So if we...

Speaking of Subjective - I can't visualize the tail issue .... My interpretation of the words fails due to my own subjective way I visualize the words ... Anyone have some pictures - more than one of a bad tail set and a more than one of a good tail set ? I've got 2 good cocks and 3 good...

I consider that sloppy - because as you say - it is not taking the long term and the whole breed into consideration ... In my newbie opinion - we should be breeding to consistantly produce a high number of chicks from any batch to be SOP qualified ... to have a pen to just produce roos or hens...

    Appenzeller Spitzhauben

Interesting .... I had only show or pet in my mind - with the idea that show had all the SOP points of interest - perhaps not perfect - but there .... and pet being all others - with some of the pet having those fill in needed balances to add to the others ..... I get it now .... but...

What's the difference between show and breeder quality ? if you breed- isn't it to breed to the Standard which is what any show uses to judge the birds ?

The momma to this new peep is a lovely Silver Spitz - and sweet personality and a looker ... she was "just" an addition to my silver flock .... so the chamois is not going to be in my spitz breeding program - just some more COOL eye candy for my mixed flock - since I am only concentrating on...

Oh - total bonus for me - It is a chamois ! How cool ... Emily is doing just fine - in with the main flock and enjoying her new home :) So glad I figured - what the heck - and tossed that egg in .... :) he he Made my day.

Anyone got a pic of what a chamois chick looks like when very wee ??? I think I may have one from a Silver Hen from Phodora :) It laid the egg on the way home and I said - what the heck - and a broody hatched it out - but it was in with other eggs so I am not positive it is from the...

Any decent person would be glad to tell you who the parents of a bird are - or will also be glad to tell you that have no idea - the egg came form a mixed flock ... Or perhaps I am pie-in-the-sky ... because I never mind telling that to anyone who asks - and I've gotten the same courtesy from...

    Appenzeller Spitzhauben

Lots of people like crosses and mixes - so I would call it that Using the label of Silver Spitzhauben comes with the implication it IS that .... and the SS are a breed - breeding true looking phenotype offspring .... So I would say they are a cross with the silver color and gold or cream in...

Wow .... Very disheartening ... I have used stock photo before when someone wanted to see specifics about the coloring - but I clearly labeled it as a Spitz Club photo and NOT mine ! Now one has to wonder about the peeps too .... or did you buy that exact pair and have them...

:) I don't even care for a win or not - just the fun of it - the fair I go to has CATEGORIES !!! in eggs - so even the white eggs have a chance :) but I do have good Marans eggs - and I like that deep color - so will try them .... I have one hen laying pretty dark even this late in the season.

    Appenzeller Spitzhauben

I agree ! I also was too leary that other bird owners would keep questionable birds home - so didn't even think about taking birds ... I am debating putting a nice dark dozen Marans eggs in the fair :) Just toying w/the idea - I've never entered anything - and the fair I go to is small and...

PhoredaBurds ..... I just took a look at the Great Britian standard page ... and the hen I got from you looks exactly like the one they have !!! You are doing a great job of breeding to that standard!!! I can't find a thing off w/my hen yet - she still has to go through her first moult ...
