    Free ranging in snow?

Mine weren't too excited about coming out today, its still cold. Lured 5 out of 8 out of the coop. The other three just stood in the run yelling at me, lol. It's covered and not as snowy.

    Free ranging in snow?

.i was just thinking the other day about how the snow makes it possible to see if anything has been lurking near by. We had some deer check out the coop a few days ago, but no signs of anything else, except for a cat that goes through the yard, but not near the coop. Not yet, anyway.

    Free ranging in snow?

Found out the other day the ground rips up terribly when chickens scratch on it when it's frozen solid! The chickens found the places the ground was exposed from the previous day's snowman making. It wasn't long until they were down to the dirt and there was a big mess! Tried to cover it with...

    Free ranging in snow?

I think the cold warped the door to the coop. When it was a shed, we hardly ever went in it in the winter. Hubby moved the latch because it was hard to close, now we can't latch it at all. I have been holding it closed with a large rock. As long as said rock doesn't freeze to the "porch" of the...

    Free ranging in snow?

Shoveled a spot for the girls. They lasted about 15 minutes. A couple got brave and left the plowed area and were not too enthusiastic about it. Heading back in.... Not sure what to do now.....

    Free ranging in snow?

We have about a foot of snow on the ground here in Pennsylvania. Opened the coop door, they all jumped up on the roost as if to say"Are you kidding!?" I managed to keep a 6x8' area of the run snow free so they are hanging out in there.

    Free ranging in snow?

We got 8" of snow, maybe more, today. Had the run semi-covered and some of them were in it under the covered part. The wind blew a little snow in the run and the coop, but they seemed okay. Will have my son shovel them an area near the coop to see if they want out tomorrow. They did just fine in...

    Free ranging in snow?

One of my EE does not want to go in the snow. My son took her out of the coop yesterday, and she still didn't want to come out again today. Once she is out, she's just fine. She sits in the coop and cries when everyone else leaves. She's my (lovingly so) ding bat!

    Free ranging in snow?

Near the foundation of the house. Caught sneaking up to the neighbor's house.... They didn't seem to mind the snow as much today. They were glad, however, when the sun melted the snow in patches!

    Free ranging in snow?

We got about 1 1/2" of snow today so I decided to let them out. They studied the ground from inside the coup.they one tried to fly up over it ( they usually run full put about 20 feet then fly a little to stretch their wings.) the others were lifting their legs really high at first. One chicken...

    Free ranging in snow?

Looks like my girls will get to see snow again tomorrow. Wish it wasn't, my husband has to drive his mom 2 hours away for surgery.

    Free ranging in snow?

At this point, I'd take snow over the mud!

    Free ranging in snow?

My girls, born in May, weren't too sure of the snow at first. One stopped short at the door of the coop the first time she saw it, as if to tell the others to stay in. The day after that, they didn't seem to care so much. It's been a month since they've seen any here in central Pennsylvania...
