I'm also doing the same now, but thought about how broody chickens don't leave the nest the last 3 days so the eggs don't get dry, how much your humidity will drop when you open your incubator?
Mine will get in the 30's quickly and i'm afraid this what make the chicks get dried quickly.
Would you guys think its a better idea to add water during lockdown by inserting a small aquarium hose through one of the vents to fill the water tub without opening the incubator door?
Or its better to open the door for a few seconds to help some air coming in?
Thank you for the great post, brought many ideas to me.
I'm thinking about point number 3 in your post, i'm thinking of moving the eggs on day 23 to the hatcher(which is a real incubator that have auto turner), and keep the auto turner working and the humidity same as for the first 23 days...
"Based on expected O2 requirements for a hatch, air in most incubators needs to be changed about eight times
a day or once every 3 hours. This rate of air exchange is the minimum required. Air exchange rates in most
machines are usually more than adequate."
These words from the article that...
What is your humidity for lock down?
I only have a small room in my house where i could run my incubator in, its the same room where i raise my chicks, the only thing i could do to change the location is to move it right or left for a few feets.
I'm thinking of lowering my humidity for the...
This year i'm having many quitters, some of them die just a day before lockdown and most of them die at first day on lock down, could it be lack of oxygen in the hatcher? I decreased the ventilation holes to the half in the hatcher to get the humidity higher to 70%or 72%, if i will leave them...
I have tried it for emu eggs, or actually its the only way to do it with emu eggs, But with peafowl eggs you need the humidity set between 45-55% for the first weeks, so you should check it first, i heard of some breeders that don't add water in their incubator in the first weeks because their...
