It's not common, but since EE's are just Ameraucanas crossed with something else, it could very well be. Cheek puffs are the big giveaway that you have an EE--not many breeds have those.

Yup! MPC actually gets their chicks from Meyers, so it's basically the same place, and they not only sell EE's, but EE bantams as well, and they make a very clear distinction between their EE's and Ameraucanas. As for the quality of their Ameraucanas, I wouldn't be the one to ask. Although...

If you want an EE roo, scope out the fry pan assortments for EE chicks in there. That's where we got our Gryffindor! :D

I never had any interest in owning a rooster until I saw an EE roo. They are, in my opinion, the prettiest of all roosters.

Watch the legs. In my experience, the first sign an EE is a boy is when his legs thicken up.

I think that's the rite of passage for all eventual Easter Egger addicts... "Well, I -thought- I was getting Ameraucanas...." Next thing you know you're in love with these wonderful little mutts that you were tricked into buying and you want a hundred more. lol

thank you very much. :) Mars was a "rainbow layer" who turned out to be a roo. Not a lot of laying, rainbow or otherwise, but he's a gentleman of a rooster and a real sweetheart. Gryffindor was rescued from the pan fry bin because my mom fell in love with his coloring and ridiculously fluffy...

It's hard to be certain. We had about 11 mature roosters at the time it was sired, but it was most likely our EE roo Gryffindor or our white rooster of uncertain breed. The mother of this chick was closed up with the white rooster for most of the time, so I'm leaning towards him as the papa.

It doesn't get better with age. I'm 29 and still go "I hear babies!" when they get the chicks in.

Personally, given the choice, I'd rather have chicken tractors than stationary coops. Our large, stationary coop and run serves its purpose, but when the chickens can't be let out to free range, it's the chickens in the tractor who have the best deal.

I know, right? If Orscheln's has any left when we go in to replace the chick that passed, we're going to end up with them lol.
