We were given some eggs during our first incubator hatch so I put them in and had fun with a staggered hatch, anyway, I was amazed at how small and fast those little buggers were! Fascinating!
Is it moving the leg but just can't right it's self? If so, that is normal. They have very little coordination. It takes a while for them to get all their parts going. They usually rest a bit after they get out and then will have spurts of flopping around. I wouldn't be too worried about it...
Well, we had a small catastrophe with our hatch. On hatch day, one of my more persistent hens managed to make her way through my barricade to her "favorite" nest box (i.e. where broody mama was) and succeeded in crushing 3 hatchlings. I reinforced the barricade and hoped for the best as there...
Congrats! I just put my broody into "lockdown" with 5 eggs. One I don't think is viable but we are giving it a chance. Hopefully we will have 4 little peeps on Monday.
You are more likely to have issues with the hatch if you open the incubator at this point. I have found that the bumping around does not bother the ones who are zipping and sometimes encourages them a bit. They will keep rolling them around and they shouldn't have a problem with air if you...
Day 18 for me is tomorrow so I will go into broody lock down. For me that means caging her so the other birds don't go in her nest during the hatch. She is very tolerant of other birds sharing the nest to lay but there is too much risk during hatch to let them share. Hope all 4 of her...
There are lots of causes. I have had some in the past do that. Hope it revives, sometimes they take a long break between pipping and zipping and kicking.
